even thoufh i didn't know the story, the movie presents it in a way you see what's coming. it's not about tension but the imagery it presents to convey everything is so striking and potent it's stuck deeply in my mind right now. so cool

second is when the backdrops start getting totally unique incredible, and plotwise it's a bit more involved. it carries on the kind of lonely and mysterious feeling so well. the third is the best by far though...it takes all the imagery and supernatural aspects even further than the first two

if you like slow movies where you get to stare at gorgeous stuff basically the whole time you gotta check it. 1st story is slow and not really that surprising but it builds up the setting and mood so well so that the ending can play off it beautifully

got to see kwaidan in 4k, was phenomenal, in so many ways it aligns so neatly with things i'm interested in. the sets and backgrounds, some absolutely incredible effects and tons of brilliant lighting, the folklore stories and embrace of their surrealism, incredible sound design...

yeah. tho personally i found bloodborne the easiest game aside from demon's souls because in practice the parry window is like 2-3x as long as the other games (if it trades you can recover all the health by doing the followup) and it works on almost everything

i mean, having long had that memory myself, the vibe of season 1 and the things i really liked about it this time definitely come off very differently than the things the show was later regarded for. it's fun and experimental and it'll just let weird things sit without explaining them fully

but man, TIF...well, at least it's got the worf scenes and the godawful conversation between pulaski and troi had me laughing super hard ("men...they're so violent and stupid...that's why we love them :)"). i hate these kinds of lameass family stories though, it's just so broad and cliche all around

been rewatching tng season 2 after like 20 years, it's been fun. still got some of the unpredictable and often low-key weirdness that made s1 surprisingly enjoyable while also having clear examples of the show finding its longer overall groove. really have only hated 2 episodes so far lol

yeah i mean i kinda literally agree with that first part but it feels like such a defeatist attitude. but i also understand why if you've built your creative skills to a certain point it's hard to want to swing for something really risky and unique when playing it safer can still work out

It's not about this guy's crimes. They want to kill someone in public, and this guy's crimes give them some cover for doing it. well. i wish it was so easy to win. even if the creators avoid doing it themselves if you reach enough people to get press or word of mouth the audience will sure try. but yes i think it's very much a means of pre-emptively limiting yourself in a lot of cases

i didn't totally understand stranger of paradise when i played it, what was nojima cooking. now i realize it's about how if you become a villain to overthrow an unjust system you were part of you have to set up heroes to defeat you so that they can truly break the chains of the past

i also think genre is death and almost everything that's excited me for the past couple years hasn't been so easy to describe as a variation of something else. so maybe adventure platformers did need something else like cue-based combat. but adventure games are infinite so i think probably not

"good" in quotes is the only appropriate way to even TALK about this. it's so obviously a matter of fashion considering the broader cultural shifts of the early 10s. show dread or nine sols to someone before the modern indie scene and dark souls and i think there's a high chance they wouldn't get it
