If you like fast-paced fantasy with wit then this novella is for you. The protagonist, a battle worn barbarian, tries to contact the allusive wizard council only to uncover their corruption. He begins a quest of vengeance with a beat up the bad guy, ask questions later mentality. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ #booksky

When HAMNET came out in 2020, I was a new mother. A lot of media surrounding child loss was too much for me to handle. I avoided it until yesterday and finished the book in a day. What a dynamic depiction of grief. The writing enchanted me and I can't stop ruminating.

I started THE GOBLIN EMPEROR by Katherine Addison today. I am devouring it. It came out while I was in college, and I find it a travesty that it's been outside of my awareness until now! The social intrigue is a nice palatte cleanser to the more intense books I've been reading lately.

✨BOOK CLUB✨ Margo takes herself from hot mess to success in this fast-track to adulthood saga. The writing was clever and charming, but the plot dragged at the end. Margo is naive & bold which instantly wins you over. The technicolored personalities from the side characters were electric. ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

I've been trying to find balance in my life but reading is one of those things that loves to dominate my time. I guess there are far worse things to worry about than that!

I'm reading THE HEART OF THE NHAGA right now and my mind is willing but my brain is failing me. For whatever reason it's been really hard to stay focused during this read!! Maybe I need something slow paced after this one. Any suggestions?

Medieval horror, Breton folklore, and colonial witchcraft walk into a bookshelf… Historical fantasy as a fun sub-genre is turning out to be one of my favorites. Help me add to my TBR list by sharing your must read books from the genre!

We've been raising chicks and one died today. She was the first creature I've ever comforted while dying. I'm young enough to be unfamiliar with death. It was equal parts desperate and reverent. Considering mortality wasn't on my agenda today.

This book was converted from a fanfic to a publishable book. The magic system was not explained well. The emotional weight was still there but it was hard to connect with the characters. I was grateful it got an edit, because the fanfic needed it, but it could have been 200 pages less. ⭐⭐⭐

Earlier this year I read Half His Age by McCurdy. It was literary and read like a sexually graphic cautionary tale. Today I started Margo's Got Money Troubles by Thorpe which is lighthearted and emphasizes the naivety of youth. Both stories are so similar yet so different!

I've noticed my proclivities to rate a book higher right when I finish it. My rating slowly regulates as time passes. What's the book version of rose colored glasses?

✨BOOK CLUB✨ This book had more wit than creepy moments. The sibling dynamic was captured impeccably; I laughed out loud twice while reading. The end had loose ends which left the reader questioning major world building mechanics. I loved the characters but felt the plot was lacking. ⭐⭐.75

✨BOOK CLUB✨ This portal fantasy held a lovely sense of slow-paced wonder. If I had been reading it alone, I would have thought it boring. My kids helped me appreciate its moments of whimsy. Also, Santa's cameo was fun! As a kids' classic, it holds up to modern standards. #booksky

This grimdark fantasy was twisty & ruthless. The complexity of the world building often left me lost. But, that may be due to an attention deficiency on my part! 😅 Each POV explored a different angle of the plot; they merged together perfectly to shape a full bodied story. #sff #booksky ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

This had potential to be a wacky, book lover's version of The Midnight Library. Instead, it was so fantastical, it read like satire. The romance felt like an afterthought, until the love interest quite literally Koolaid-manned his way into the story. Reading this stole the wind from my sails. ⭐⭐

Sunrise on the Reaping was tragically poetic. Haymitch, a slow-witted boy, navigates a systematic regime. His journey from reluctant hero to broken coward keep me interested. I'd prefer less relentless quoting of Edgar Allen Poe, but the impeccable pacing made up for it. #booksky #amreading ⭐⭐⭐⭐.25

Cover photo of Field Guide for the Formerly Villainous. A tree winds up the left side of the cover. In the foreground, a book and sword lay against the trunk. In the background, a dog runs in front of a farmhouse.

This book gave what it promised. It highlights forgotten female activists while sharing the raw, unabashed history of black suppression. Some of the author's personal anecdotes were so tender & integral to what the book represents, yet many felt disjointed & hindered the book's flow. #booksky ⭐⭐⭐⭐

✨BOOK CLUB✨ This was succinct and disgusting in a way that draws you in and traps you like a bad dream. The writing was phenomenal, but the subject and plot were hard to stomach. Every significant character's pain drove their toxic behaviors. It was a masterclass on character work. ⭐⭐⭐⭐ #booksky

I finished reading LEGENDS & LATTES. As someone who runs TTRPGs, it was no surprise that I loved it. A retired adventurer turned coffee shop owner finds community. It held a mundane, cozy charm with a cast of loveable supporting characters. My only complaint would be the watered down romance. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
