Review: Winterveil by Ava Reid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book suffered largely from it's pacing and dark content. I loved the concept, but the pacing kept me from really engaging with the idea. Warning for SA content. #booksky 📚💙

The system has always protected men. A promising career or "potential" has been proven time and again to be more valuable than the life and safety of a woman. Rage is a constant undercurrent in my life. What will it take to finally say enough? To protect women? To place value on them over men?

Review: Love Felt Like This by Julie Olivia ⭐️ (DNF @ 47%) This was just not for me. The book relied heavily on tropes, simplistic characters, and predictable language choice. This would be better suited to someone looking for a quick, easy, mindless read. #booksky 📚💙

Dolly's death is devastating. As someone who loves reading and is passionate about children's literacy, I am so sad about this loss. She donated hundreds of millions of books for children across the US. She fostered learning. I'm literally in mourning. Don't call. Don't text.

Dolly Parton spent 80 years proving you could have big hair, a bigger heart, a brilliant mind and absolutely no patience for anyone who underestimated you. She gave us unforgettable songs, free books for millions of children, and enough wit, rhinestones and kindness to light up Tennessee.

2026 is over. There's no way Dolly Parton has passed and I have to live through the rest of this dumpster fire. Rest in peace to an icon. Dolly Parton was such a light in this dark world. Thank you for all the work you did for children's literacy. Truly devastating loss.

Review: Grim Tidings by B.K. Borison ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I'm so sad to say this book underwhelmed me. I still liked it, but felt the marketing had spoiled a bit too much for me to truly fall in love like with her other works. Don't read the quotes! Don't fall for the social media posts! Go in blind! #booksky 📚💙

Review: How My Fake Alien Boyfriend Learned to Cook and Saved the Family Business by Lacey Hawthorne ⭐️⭐️⭐️ A fun, no-spice book that follows the exact plot as the title. At times, a bit melodramatic and unfocused for me. But super fun! #booksky 📚💙

Review: (Mostly) Human Resources by Grace Viall ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Honestly... expected more Jackalopes. This book is perfect for fans of X Files and rom-coms, which feels like an odd combination. I promise it works. Viall does an excellent job blending Appalachian folklore and genre-bending fiction. #booksky

My books are a bit scattered. First by age range, then by genre (kind of), with favorites in stacks all around the shelves, then non-fiction, which is split between rooms. It's honestly a lot of chaos from someone who works in a library but oh well...

Review: The Fast Track by Angelica Cheng ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 This was a super quick (kinda predictable) romance read full of racing and battling expectations. I loved the humanity of the main characters, but struggled with some of the dynamics I found more problematic due to power imbalances. #booksky 📚💙

Review: We Were Never Here by Sophie Hannan ⭐️⭐️⭐️ This book's unique concept is shattered by its biggest downfalls: unlikeable characters and a messy timeline. #booksky 📚💙
Cover photo of We Were Never Here by Sophie Hannan. A painted portrait in a gilded frame is split down the middle. On one side, an image of a ghostly woman holding a bouquet of dead flowers. Water drips down her side of the frame. On the opposite side, a girl with green hair in a white sweatshirt holds a living bouquet. Both look scared or upset.

Review: Kiki and the New Magic by Eiko Kadono ⭐️⭐️ I'm not sure why this book was written? It was fine, enjoyable even, but it didn't really introduce a lot of newness into Kiki's world. I felt like I was reading a rewrite of the original story. #booksky 📚💙
