@rachelapayne.bsky.social & @istanton.bsky.social started their sampling campaign, sampling wastewater 💩 to look for resistant & multidrug resistant bacteria 🦠🧫 in different demographic populations 👵🏙️🎓

"As a #WomanInSTEM researching #AMR, I explore 🍄 antifungal resistance in soil & compost, and 💊multidrug resistance in wastewater. My work focuses on understanding how resistance spreads in the environment to help protect public health & shape sustainable solutions. 🌍🔬" - @rachelapayne.bsky.social

We process our monitoring samples in a variety of ways, which include #phenotypic testing for #AMR, as well as using #molecular methods such as #qPCR and #sequencing to look for specific antimicrobial resistance genes 🦠🧬👩‍🔬🧫 #WAAW

Happy World #AMR Awareness Week! #WAAW #WAAW25 At @ukceh.bsky.social our AMR researchers work on both #bacterial and #fungal AMR! We undertake research monitoring AMR in many different environments (water 🌊, wastewater 💩, air 💨, soil 🌱 & plants 🌿), which means we get out in the field a lot!

Our Planet. Decoded. UKCEH makes sense of environmental complexity to power decisions that shape a better future. We don’t just examine our planet, we decode it – working out how to build a better tomorrow. 🎞️ youtu.be/s9fBwN5-kxM #UKCEH #EnvironmentalScience 🧪

First up, @rachelapayne.bsky.social who is a Molecular Microbiology Research Assistant. Rachel investigates environmental AMR, focusing on antifungal resistance in air & soils, & antibacterial resistance in rivers. She uses a combination of lab, field & desk-based studies to carry out her research🧫🦠
