It's been a minute since I've been here, but I'll be at 4C's this week presenting on content moderation and queer flourishing. So excited to catch up with everyone and most excited for the @ccccqueercaucus.bsky.social meeting <3

Morgan and Gavin just won a Lavender Rhetorics award for this Cluster Conversation and I'm still so proud to have been a part of it!!

Super excited to share my latest article with the wonderful Avery Edenfield: Queer Potential in Professional Communication: “Queer Use” & Terms of Service (the "Online First" version through TCQ). I have 50 free e-links so let me know if you want one!

Now why on earth did I schedule my sabbatical presentation for the Monday we get back from Spring Break?!

I'm at CI & everyone is terrified about what cuts will mean for us as the smallest campus. I'm a CSU alumn & it was the only way I was able to access a college education (B.A. @ CI & M.A. @ Northridge). It's hearbreaking that I'm hoping me leaving for a TT position elsewhere will save someone's job.

I need to post more often here, but big life update (yes, amidst the dumpster fire of everything else): I'll be starting as an assistant professor at University of South Carolina in August 2025. I love CI and will miss it dearly, but am so excited for this next chapter of my life.

It's been a minute since I've been here, so updates: I successfully defended my dissertation on September 19th and am now on the job market! It's been a rollercoaster navigating the job market while still having my regular full-time teaching job, but here we go!!!

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 12/02/2024

Officially finished conducting interviews for my dissertation (thank you to all my incredible participants), just ran my corpus through AntConc, and am drafting Chapter 3... it's getting real!

020

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 26/01/2024

TY for the amazing response to my call! I only need a few more study participants to reach my goal sample size. In particular, anyone who works in sexual health/education spaces on social media and does some content moderation I would love to chat! A needed area in my current participant pool.

023

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 16/01/2024

I have a full study participant sheet I'd be happy to pass along that explains all of this in detail if you'd like to have it! But I totally understand and have gotten many Nos for exactly these reasons. I want to keep everyone safe and comfortable.

000

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 16/01/2024

Yes, I totally understand! I've talked to a few people who have NDA's etc. Everything is de-identified (so I don't use names of people, platforms, companies, or anything like that). I record the audio to get a transcript, but then delete everything (which is all on a password protected computer)...

Thank you so much for this and for the wonderful conversation today!

Thank you so much! This is wonderful. I'll email you now!

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 08/01/2024

Hey all! I'm still recruiting for my diss study. If you or anyone you know has experience in content moderation (paid or volunteer) and, particularly, has made decisions about "sexual content" (however defined!), I'd love to chat! Email rachael [dot] jordan [at] ttu [dot] edu for more information.

Officially set my automatic reply for sabbatical on my CSUCI email to start on Monday! WHOA. Also, conducting four interviews this week for my diss and working on two other projects. It's really happening, folks! <3

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 11/12/2023

How about today, instead of finishing up and submitting grades and working on that article that won't write itself, I just rewatch all three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials? No?

030

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 13/11/2023

I'm starting to recruit for my diss study! If you, or anyone you know, has experience moderating sexual content on social media (broadly defined), please send them my way. Feel free to email me at rachael [dot] jordan [at] ttu [dot] edu and I can send you my Study Information Sheet. :)

Apologies if you saw this on the other site, but I got to write a blog post for Teaching & Learning Innovations at CSUCI about the asynchronous service-learning grant writing course that I teach. Hooray! tlinnovations.cikeys.com/innovation/o...

One of my grant writing students from a few semesters ago secured a 25,000 dollar grant for a local animal shelter. So proud of my students and their work from my class! Service-learning is hard, but so worth it ❤️

It's OFMD Season 2 day (and my long teaching day) so cross your fingers that I can stay awake tonight to watch it! I'M SO READY!!

020

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 02/10/2023

Thank you! I'm so excited for it. I've wanted to dress up as Misty since I was a kid and just never made it happen. Until now! Just got my red suspenders. :)

Rachael Jordan @rachaeljay13.bsky.social · 02/10/2023

I love Halloween and have had a costume for every one of my 37 years on this planet (even when I was 15 and thought I was too cool to get one I threw together a "Malibu Barbie" costume on the fly the day of). Going to be Misty (from Pokemon) this year and my trooper of a spouse will be Psyduck!

Thankful to teach in such a beautiful place. It makes up for having to eat outside since my office is still closed due to a flea infestation ✨

Thankful for Kaiser's literal drive-thru flu vaccine by my house! (Wish they were still covering the COVID boosters from other pharmacies, though, especially since they don't have the new one yet). Thinking of @lecagle.bsky.social ! My poor cuckoo bird always gets the needle!

Thursdays are my long teaching days so here we go! Excited to meet students in both my Editing Studio sections (one of which is part of a learning community) and to meet my CIMAS students. The other two asynch courses I teach have started off strong this week, as well. :)

I walked into a college classroom to teach for the first time in Fall 2009. In my MA program we were the instructor of record. I've been teaching college students ever since and am so thankful for the work I get to do.

Having an almost teen is wild. I make him laugh. L (laugh crying): I hate you Me: Only because you think I'm funny and actually like me which you feel like you shouldn't since you're about to be 13. L (still laughing): Ugh it's so trueeeeeee. Honestly, though, making him laugh is so great.

And while we're talking about @clpolk.bsky.social if you aren't ready to start with a trilogy then read The Midnight Bargain and/or Even Though I Knew the End and I promise you will fall in love with their writing and want to read the Kingston Cycle.

I love, love, love this whole trilogy. And trilogies that change their focal point character are my JAM.

Yes! It's so terrible. We don't really have an airbnb market where I am (we're too far outside Los Angeles), but I know that's a big issue on top of all of this as well. Grrrrr. I've seen so many houses in our neighborhood that are "listed by Zillow" or whatever and sit and sit and sit.
