Dropped one of my Mitutoyo "Shock Proof" dial calipers (clumsy) and it stopped sliding nicely. Bit of a dig... yeah, straight in the bin. Not too shock proof. Lines on that steel rule are 1mm increments. Glad to have another set, but still kinda annoyed! Shock Proof indeed.

Been sinking a lot of time and effort and money (oh god the money) into recent endeavour: home automation/self-hosting. Goal is full abscission from cloud services in everyday life. Some small exceptions (email, webhosting - security reasons). Love how it's come together, at least aesthetically.
