Spooky bird stories. My Halloween comic from 2024.

A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??" In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!". In panel 3, A screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!". In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

The Winterhawks loss last night (10/3) wasn't really surprising based on how they played but the amount of fighting in the first period was really surprising... I guess their 10/2 game must have been a doozie for the aggression to carryover onto the ice the next day? Also spokane's 44 is really bad.

A few pictures from last week's trip to Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, Steens Mountains, and the Alvord desert. Amazing wilderness and lots of driving. We really thought the rain showers were going to close the desert (gets too muddy to drive on) but it was perfect. Canon R5, 100-500

Cascade #Pika Watch season is starting off with a bang! This cutie seems like a teenager based on the size and color; but the skateboard gives it away. #Canon R5 at 700 mm (RF100-500mm + RF1.4x extender) cropped another 50% Near Ainsworth State Park in #Oregon

A young pika sitting in a mossy rocky area, it is stupiiid cute and slightly soggy from the rain earlier in the day. Its fur is a little darker than an adult and also looks smaller. There is not a skateboard in the picture.

Seagull making a weird shape really close to the water where it's flying but the head/neck are craned under its body trying to snap something out of the water. The legs are splayed down making it look funny too. The photographer was obviously very skilled at the shot /s

Leaving Egypt today, standard tourist things were amazing and our guide was amazing as well. They really are a great place to visit. We traveled with Archeological Paths and were also on the Jaz Senator Nile Boat on a 10-day "Essence of Egypt" tour. Here are a few photos of the 6k I did yesterday 🥵

Like half of a hallway taken up by 4' glass walls labeled pretty permanently "EgyptAir Business Class Lounge" across from F Gate duty free shop, has a counter with coffee and snacks you can see through the glass. It just looks janky with all the hallway noise and lack of actual space. The chairs inside are close and dense.

The head is mostly white with a wide racing band of black over the top. The eyes are dark, and has an odd triangle kind of shape around it as if the lower eyelid was large and the upper is small. There are tiny bright orange "cheeks" where the beak opens that look odd but are small and actually easy to ignore if you're not looking for them.
