Oh boy. GPT 5.4 achieves SOTA on desktop computer use - and exceeds human performance Bad news for humans and who get paid to use computers. Was expecting something like this later this year, but nothing this strong, this soon.

spooky stuff in the Claude 4.6 system card re: cyber risks - "Internal testing demonstrated qualitative capabilities beyond what these evaluations capture, including signs of capabilities we expected to appear further in the future and that previous models have been unable to demonstrate."
screenshot from section 1.2.4.3 from the Claude 4.6 Opus System Card:

The RSP does not define a formal capability threshold for cyber risks at any AI Safety Level. However, Claude Opus 4.6 has saturated all of our current cyber evaluations, achieving ~100% on Cybench (pass@30) and 66% on CyberGym (pass@1). Internal testing demonstrated qualitative capabilities beyond what these evaluations capture, including signs of capabilities we expected to appear further in the future and that previous models have been unable to demonstrate.

The saturation of our evaluation infrastructure means we can no longer use current benchmarks to track capability progression or provide meaningful signals for future models. We are prioritizing investment in harder evaluations and enhanced monitoring for cyber misuse, even in the absence of formal RSP thresholds.

Some fascinating stuff in here
Excerpt from a Dario Amodei essay:

In the long term, in a world with enormous total wealth, in which many companies increase greatly in value due to increased productivity and capital concentration, it may be feasible to pay human employees even long after they are no longer providing economic value in the traditional sense. Anthropic is currently considering a range of possible pathways for our own employees that we will share in the near future.

I'm writing this up as part of a larger post about grok, mechahitler, and "woke AI", but I just asked Claude if housing is a human right. This response is not "woke" by any stretch. I think there is a consistent tone to AI, but I'd characterize it as liberal-professional-technocratic
A Claude chat transcript, in which I ask: "Is housing a human right? Should the real estate markets be controlled to prevent homelessness or housing insecurity?" And Claud responds:

"Housing as a human right is recognized in international law through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 25) and other UN instruments, which establish that everyone has a right to adequate housing. However, there's significant debate about what this means in practice and how governments should implement it.

The question of market controls involves weighing several considerations:
- Arguments for housing market intervention:
- Housing differs from typical consumer goods because everyone needs shelter to survive and participate in society
- Unregulated markets can price out essential workers, families, and vulnerable populations
- Market failures occur when speculation, zoning restrictions, or monopolistic practices distort supply and demand
- Many successful cities use rent stabilization, inclusionary zoning, public housing, or housing trust funds

Arguments for market-based approaches:

- Price controls can reduce incentives to build new housing, potentially worsening shortages
- Market mechanisms typically allocate resources more efficiently than government planning
- Heavy regulation can create bureaucratic barriers to development
- Property rights and freedom of contract are important legal principles

Quick hue study I made in p5.js. Will post some code when I clean it up a little more, but trying to do some weird math on chroma and lightness on randomly selected hues, and trying to get away from raw RGB noise. Worried about bsky cropping, this should be in 16:9? #creativecoding #generativeart
