Treat design decisions as what they are: political-economic power. The user interface, the default settings, the autoplay, the pre-checked box, the products on a shelf. Someone (or something) chose each one for you. #econsky #philsky #polisky

The Pemission Gap: Who Decides for People Who Don't Exist Yet?
China has more data on its citizens than any state in history and still builds cities nobody moves into. A Texas grocery chain buys pasture nine years out and gets it roughly right.

Talk is free. That's why "we want to be regulated" tells you nothing about an AI lab. Look at what one gives up instead. A launch date. An outside review. The one thing it can't get back. This month, those all pointed in the same direction, and it wasn't toward slowing down. #econsky #AI #openAI

When someone says let's make this more efficient: efficient at what? For whom? Over what window? Calling something efficient means someone’s already decided what counts as waste. The word hides the true decision inside the measurement. #econsky #philsky

Predictive Capitalism’s Patient Zero. Clyde Dawson. June 26, 1974, 8:01am. Troy, Ohio. 67 cents. A pack of Juicy Fruit, the first barcode ever scanned in a store. Dawson picked it on purpose. Nobody was sure a code could print that small. Nothing is too small to read. Or track. #econsky #history
