At a very basic level, the situation in Gaza is so clearly wrong. Israel fences in 2 million Palestinians in Gaza, 85% of whom are refugees from Israel, which took their homes and property, and now bombs them mercilessly every 2-3 years.

The Israeli military has dropped more bombs on Gaza this week than the United States military dropped on all of Afghanistan in the years 2014-2016. They have already killed more people in Gaza than the number of Israelis killed in the attacks of October 7. This is a thread; please keep reading.🧵

Israel admitted that it dropped about 6,000 bombs on #Gaza since Saturday. This chart shows the same number of bombs dropped on #Afghanistan by the #US in an entire year, noting that Gaza is only 378 km2, while Afghanistan is 652,864 km2.

An attached chart shows that the US dropped 2365 bombs on Afghanistan in 2014, 947 bombs on Afghanistan in 2015, and 1337 bombs on Afghanistan in 2016.

U.S. networks are committing journalistic malpractice by only posting reporters in Israel U.S. reporters are providing breathless, around-the-clock coverage from Israel, but none are reporting from the destruction of Gaza. The result is Palestinians are dehumanized, and Americans miss the story.

Why language matters: “500 people have died in Gaza” “700 people have been killed in Israel” “Died” is vague & lessens the perpetrator’s role. “Died” makes it seem more natural. “Killed” spotlights both perpetrator & victim. A slight word change massively distorts the moral compass.

There's been a massive escalation of bombing in northern Syria past 3 days by Assad & Russia. Civilians are being targeted and white phosphorus has been used in rural Aleppo. They have also targeted the hospital in Idlib so the injured cannot seek treatment.
