I was digging through a box of old journals from my adolescence and came across one where the material itself was produced by a company called Running Rhino. It's now defunct but the memorial tombstone for it is something beautiful, so human and reminiscent of the old days so o had to share it here.

Dr Cheese Bones is so tied to the Textile Makerspace, I think I need a new mascot. And there's so much you can do with a snail. One of the grad students had the great idea of a snail-slime trail of yarn.

Today was a day of miracles in YarnLab. For the first time in maybe 2.5 years, I successfully used the digital knitting machine and AYAB to knit a reasonably-sized design without it jamming or falling off or failing halfway through. I credit a boon from our probable new mascot, the snail. #DHmakes

I am nothing if not stubborn, and so I decided to make good on my claim that I'd dig out old crayons and draw it myself. Is it a masterpiece? I mean, I hadn't drawn in decades and it shows, and old broken crayons are a challenging medium, but driven by spite and curiosity, I made it my damned self.

My girlfriend pulled out her old copy of The Write Source and it immediately took me back to late elementary school when I'd carry around Write Source 2000 everywhere. I loved writing and I loved that book. Give me a new edition of this book, not AI in schools.

I guess it depends on what level of institutional credit / visibility you need it to have, but that's the sort of scenario where I'll usually write a blog post? Sometimes blog posts get revised and expanded into bigger things but it's a way to get it out there soonish that still can get cited.

I wasn't happy with how the @neh-odh.bsky.social weaving was turning out. Subsequent grants were filling in the gaps from the canceled grants. It was making it feel like not a big deal. It is a big deal. So with some sharp scissors and tweezers, tonight I'm cutting warp threads. #DHmakes
