QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 04/08/2026"Interesting" can be derogative (more like your meaning) or complementary. Which one is context dependent in my experience 010
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 04/08/2026I think she means it as "exactly!", kind of like the 100% but with more emotion 000
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 04/08/2026👀 is an acknowledgement that a message has been seen on my team. I have not seen my team's meaning much elsewhere. But casually I see it as "that looks interesting" 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 04/08/2026Is that what my coworker has been meaning? That reminds me to ask her to be sure, but that makes the most sense. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026I am really not a fan of how Professor Sag characterizes disability accommodations. I am glad people like @rahaeli.bsky.social and @jmiers230.bsky.social are calling that out. 010
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026I also think organizations should do more than create a list of approved accommodations and largely limit themselves to that list. People *will* need different things. The list my college had contained things that would be helpful to some people, but none of them would help me. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026I think stressful, time limited exams are generally not a good tool to measure student performance. I still think extra exam time should be available as an accommodation because it does help some people. It is not a bonus or advantage. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026So getting 4.5 hours instead of 3 on an exam that only needed 1 hour for me and most students was completely useless to me. I shared that with my college and they effectively told me the only accommodations available were those from the list. None of those things would help me. I got no other help. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026Extra exam time is almost never helpful for me. I tend to do well on exams without it. In addition, nearly all my professors gave ample time on exams. If the exam would take most students under an hour, the professor gave 3 hours for everyone. Time was not supposed to be a limiting factor. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026I struggled in college because of my disabilities. I went through my school's process for accommodations. It took extra time and documentation, not easy. After that whole process the only accommodation available was extra exam time (and maybe a few others from a list that would be useless for me). 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 28/07/2026On accommodations for disability (specifically extra time on exams). As a somewhat recently graduated undergrad (not law) student with disabilities, exactly this. Accommodations are a good thing and we should offer more variety and make them easier to get. 110
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 27/07/2026It does impart additional (now) necessary work to manage the churn 010
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 20/07/2026It is so annoying. I also hate that you cannot transfer the prescription to a different pharmacy, even when the med is out of stock or you are travelling. You have to get the doctor to write a new prescription *and* cancel the previous prescription. Otherwise, no meds for you. 150
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 15/07/2026I mean, that does not seem that unusual. I see people hyping the latest JavaScript craze in similar ways. Typst seems to appeal to some members of very passionate and opinionated groups like LaTeX grognards and Rust evangelists. 100
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 07/07/2026I realize this is probably a joke, but didn't the Pope recently and completely sincerely warn against this (building a Tower of Babel with AI)? I think the Pope had the right idea about building towards the betterment of people instead of to glory themselves. 020

QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 20/06/2026Do you have a preference on where the LLM review takes place? Do you do the review where only you see the results, such as locally. Or is the review viewable to others, such as on the MR or part of CI? Or something else, any of the above, etc.? Trying to gauge what this looks like in practice. 100

QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 27/05/2026I did that when trying to pay for baggage with Delta a few years ago. There was a faulty JavaScript validation check that prevented submitting my card info. I had to disable the event listener for the validation. It should not be this hard to give away my money. 160
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 19/05/2026That is where I am leaning. My feedback is along the lines of "I do not think this is a worthwhile feature and has these risks... Assuming FamilySearch want to keep it, these are issues that need to be fixed..." 030

QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 14/05/2026Whoops, the previous link was just to the image, not the text search feature that has the transcript and AI summary. Here is an accurate link: www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3... 030
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 14/05/2026It looks like the transcription is okay, but the AI summary of the transcription is leaving out or replacing words like you identified. The UI also could better differentiate between the transcription and AI summary. I will try to share this with my FamilySearch contacts. 130

QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 21/04/2026When I say mix, that just means like at least 5% of my work is each of those categories. 33%, 33%, 33% is fine. So is 90%, 5%, 5%. Or just about any other combination. Just enough to give me some variety 000
QuietEngineer @quietengineer.fyi · 19/04/2026For me, partially yes. I need a mix of feature work, bug fixes, and refactoring or I go insane. But I love making a codebase more maintainable and adding docs, even though it is not visible to users. Unfortunately that is not easy to sell to management as beneficial and important 110
