Being the chosen child of God—gifted the Echo and granted life, purpose—was the highest possible honor under which to be borne. She had been fed, clothed, cared for. Venerated, admired, baptised and sanctified.

The Scions then adopted her, folding her into their organization and praising her for her strength and success. Applauding and rewarding her willpower. Every mistake was eventually forgiven and no grudges were held against her.

She felt guilty for that.
