I had my mom pick the reference photo for this piece. A lot of overlapping because it's a selfie meant drawing 2 different people plus me. I learned some good lessons though! Shoutout to @quachstar.bsky.social for the OG pic. Happy new year! #watercolorart #art #selfie #illustration

Stage one: Paint one person and slowly add the other people. at this point I could have stopped but I didn't.

Some time later I added all three people. For myself (Left), I chose not to do a pencil underdrawing to trust myself. At this point, my friend Tom is moderately rendered; Quach has some additional details done.

At this point I added some shading plus all the key details to all of the figures to make them stand out further. Green as a base color on my shirt plus values.

Final result: A background to give a sense of place (the Javits Center during Anime NYC 2025), pushed the values to the max and added contrast to make all the figures stand out. I wrote Joe with a red acrylic marker as an inside joke to finish it.
