The Census Bureau published a federal register notice proposing changes to the 2030 census. In brief, the proposed changes would eliminate the collection of race/ethnicity data in the decennial census and revise the residency rules to exclude undocumented U.S. residents from data collection.

Trump officials propose sweeping changes to the census that would reshape voting maps

NEW RESEARCH on Judicial Professional Background and Pretrial Detention Outcomes Findings: NYC judges with law enforcement backgrounds (former prosecutors, police officers) set cash bail 32% higher on average (~$9,200) and detain defendants more frequently than judges without those backgrounds.
What This Means in Practice.

In New York City, the mayor appoints Criminal Court Judges to 10-year terms. Our findings suggest that replacing a single former law enforcement judge with one that has neither law enforcement nor legal service experience would, over that term, result in: ~$8.7M in taxpayer savings detention costs, ~$6M less in cash bail imposed on defendants and families, ~65 fewer people detained, and ~17 years of jail time avoided.
