The crew shoves 4 empty reefers and 2 boxcars down the Creamery Spur. The reefers will be set out at the Land O'Lakes creamery at the far end of the spur, and the boxcars at the Cargill Flour Mill.

Here’s Britomart starting a short train of empty slate waggons out of Minffordd Yard before coasting along the Mineral Line and then getting a little tap on the regulator. You can get some nice effects when DCC locos are ‘driven’. Am I changing anyone’s mind here?

Returned from our holiday via the #WatercressLine today. Because of the drought, steam was limited to Ropley brake van rides. Peckett 0-4-0 “Kilmersdon” with Queen Mary van was good fun. Two train service: D8059 on a paltry load 2 😕, 47579 on load 5. Not much thrash, even on the climb out of Alton.

Good shout, thanks. It’s carrying number B893021 and according to my quick web search was being restored at the West Somerset Railway last year. Presumably the GWS have taken over its completion.

The three wagons were, I think, tripped over from the loco depot with top ‘n’ tail 66s, then the leading engine drew the train forward solo and propelled back in to the GWS. The van chassis was unfitted, with a temporary flexible “through pipe” run along the chassis to the rear 66. Interesting!

Spotted on the national network this afternoon at #Didcot. What looks like an old 4w goods van chassis was transferred by DB-Cargo between the loco shed and Great Westerv Society. The usual open wagons were also in the consist, one carrying black diamonds for the steam fleet.

Loco no go-go. My N scale layout has been dormant for a long time. Looks like some of my locos need some TLC. This Atlas SD7 just buzzed louder as I advanced the throttle. On another loco I popped off the bodyshell and manually turned the armature to get it working. Not with this one though! 😕

This is sometimes done for things like emergency crossovers which see little use. It has fallen out of favour for many places because it is expensive, and the growing use of axle counters removes the need for it.

I visited a friend for an occasional US themed model meet today. We didn’t run any trains on his main layout due to some severe rail buckles! I’ve never seen buckles this bad. 4 sets of points were affected, plus some lengths of plain line. The points will need replacing - not a trivial task!

Another ride today on a Cross Country Voyager, to remind me how awful these trains are. Very restricted view out of the window, an uncomfortable seat and the saloon stinks of diesel fumes. 👎 😞
