Having light rail to a nature walk and u pick blueberries is pretty great! And it was followed up by walking through the Bellevue Art Fair and going to the Downtown Park playground two stops away!

I went with my kids on open Lake Washington Boulevard today. Such a breath of fresh air to not worry about them being hit by cars. And it’s great seeing so many people out enjoying the safe access to the lake! Thanks to advocates and @mayorofseattle.bsky.social for making it possible!

How can we expect folks to not park in the bike lane with @seattleutilities.bsky.social and other agencies doing it themselves?

I know urbanists love to hate on the new waterfront, but the throng of folks enjoying it last night - watching the sunset, strolling, playing on the swings, using the saunas - didn’t seem concerned. Could it be better? Yup? Is is a huge improvement? 1000%!

Here are a few from the firm I work for, Neiman Taber Architects in Seattle. We as a firm love boxy, small lot buildings. And as a principle try to design whole buildings with simple forms and simple material palettes.

Nothing says Urban Village like 8 stories of building, 6’ of sidewalk, 4’ of plantings, and 6 lanes of Rainier.

So this must be the yea olde bespoke bike rack for Pioneer Square. It really ties the neighborhood together. A modern bike rack would have broken the 1900’s illusion (along with cars, cell phones, stadiums, and the fact I didn’t park a penny farthing.)

I think this one is more appropriate these days. There is nothing noble, regal, or majestic my government is doing. Stay strong Canada.

Rode around Bainbridge Island today. While they have all sort of concerns about walkable and affordable housing, they are not worried about new waterfront mansions or giant houses replacing forest. In both the later cases every trip will be by car.

The NFL also requires an individual (aka plutocrat) not an entity (municipality or nonprofit) to own teams. There by blocking municipal ownership and ensuring they can continue to blackmail cities into lavishing money is stadiums and subsidies.

An unprotected bike lane is really just a narrow parking spot.

Seattle voters in a nutshell: we need more housing options, but also let’s tax the folks who will provide those options.

My Northwest is doing its best to start blaming Katie Wilson for things happening while Bruce Harrell is still mayor. Can’t wait to see what they say when she’s actually in office.

I was going to post about how amazing it was that I can now ride from Beacon Hill to South Park to Georgetown to downtown almost entirely in PBLs. But instead I’ll post this picture of a guy who smashed into the bike lane seconds after I rolled through:

Another great parking job by @seattledot.bsky.social, blocking the entire sidewalk next to the light rail station. It’s telling about their priorities.

SDOT recorded cars going up to 70 mph on Rainier. The solution? Paint and post and flashing beacons. I’m sure that will fix the problem…

There is no hope for Seattle if we can’t stop letting cars park in Occidental Square, one of our finest (and only) plazas:

SDOT can’t continue the S. Alaska St protected bike lane all the way to MLK (the most dangerous part), but has space for a second W. bound lane that only goes a few hundred feet? I pass this everyday dropping off my kid and it makes me mad every time. It’s like they aren’t trying to keep us safe.

So happy to be supporting @AlexforSeattle for Seattle council district 3. She has the experience and values that Seattle needs to take on its biggest issues. She has my support and democracy vouchers!
