Good to report 28 active House Martin nests on the estate this year (East Malling/ Ditton). Same number as 2024. Excellent really considering the ultra dry Kentish Spring. Not sure were they are obtaining mud though🤔 (Photo from 2022) @kentishplover.bsky.social #Kentbirding

Spring inland whinchat are quite scarce in central and west Kent. In the latest KBR (2022) whinchat were only recorded at 4 sites. Today’s East Malling bird was most welcome especially as it has to be one of the most strikingly marked whinchat I can recall seeing.

The Big Give is LIVE, and your chance to help Turtle Doves is here! 🕊️ Turtle Doves need us more than ever—and for this week only, every £1 you donate to Operation Turtle Dove will be doubled. Don’t miss this chance to make twice the difference: donate.biggive.org/campaign/a05...
A beautifully illustrated scene of a Turtle Dove in graceful flight. Its soft, mottled plumage of golden-brown and black is intricately detailed, with a flash of white framing the tail feathers. The serene blue sky, with wispy clouds and a hint of snow falling softly, provides a peaceful, wintery backdrop. Below, a patchwork of frosted green fields and winding country paths stretches across the landscape, dotted with cottages, hedgerows, and shimmering streams. This tranquil depiction highlights the Turtle Dove's vital connection to rural habitats, a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation efforts for this declining species.

First for me on the East Malling patch. A distant 200yds+ heavily cropped Golden Plover. @baldbirder.bsky.social informed me that there are a few records for the 1990s. Odd individual would roost among the flock of 450+ Lapwing. Lucky to get a couple of flyovers per yr of the latter now!
