are the wheels inside one of the seat benches or what?

do those windows open?

how were the seats?

it really makes you wonder who actually approves and builds this stuff.

seemed like an odd omission but it's in the business section, pretty much anyone looking up those companies would come across the term fairly quickly.

.. and i think removing yourself from the conversation by refusing to seriously engage at all is too common of a failure mode.

take 'students shouldn't use AI for school' for example. ok, that's a start, but.. why not? have their been studies comparing students that do and don't use AI, if so what have they shown? if you do ban it, how to enforce that? all of these have to actually be addressed in the real world somehow...

being anti AI as in like 'it shouldn't exist' is sort of fundamentally flawed imo because yeah, it does exist, and some use cases are actually real. i think its unfortunate some people get so stuck on opposing (or promoting, also) the whole concept they can't coherently discuss the nuances of it.

overall is this one of those situations where something is better than nothing, or would you have said to do nothing if not a good version

punt @punt1.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
seems like this isn't really that buildable and not at all like the actual single stair that gets built elsewhere. i guess it could be a start but this itself seems weak

california had a state-level condo construction defect lawsuit bill recently fail, for example, even if you did get mortgage access increased, that's just one of the aspects that'd need to be addressed to actually translate it into real construction.

it's worth considering what increased mortgage access could actually produce. in much of the LA/SF/NYC areas, they're mostly out of land for new subdivisions, so mortgages would need to be for denser condos... and that runs into nimby, zoning/planning, etc. i'd like to see a deeper dive into that!

seems like the US generally isn't great at tall but low-lot-coverage typologies, aside from 5-over-1s with parking underground and a courtyard in the middle

why does the US seem to have literally zero shared courtyards like europe has?

semi related, have you heard of the super critical water oxidation technique?
000
punt @punt1.bsky.social · 08/10/2026
goes back to 2022, apparently. said... Mayor Eric Adams. “We were proud to introduce this pioneering safety technology in 2022, and we are even prouder to be adopting it across our fleet today — making New York City the global leader in ISA.” maybe retrofitting old vehicles is the new part

hot take this is actually good because it makes it clear that these companies are not what they used to be.

is this a standards barrier thing or what? doesn't seem related to any particular local or union thing, and i don't think the consulting stuff is relevant either. what do you think?

it's weird being a passenger with someone who's constantly trying to save a few seconds here and there, flooring it at lights or swerving around in traffic and whatnot, and then they look at you like you're the weirdo if you suggest it's not that urgent

my brain simply turns off while driving so i can't really relate to being all mad about it. feels surprisingly rough on the body though

i'd have assumed the gamblers would be watching no matter what and it's regular viewers who would need to be enticed with a good broadcast, like how networks are paying celebrity broadcasters a ton of money now. this is the opposite! tv networks are running the broadcasts, not the gambling companies
100
punt @punt1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
this sounds true for gambling but i don't think it's true for simply watching the game on the broadcast? particularly for playoff games, i'd think the majority of viewers are regular fans, not gambling.

think the 'friends' part is more of the issue for a lot of people than the 'hosting' part. seems like lots of people basically just have their least annoying coworkers and, if they have kids, a few parents they met through them, and they might not want an hour of those people.
010
punt @punt1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
that's part of a larger thing i think.. we're used to high prices on an item causing increased production of it, so we're not used to collectively managing access to something (e.g number of seats in the city's main arena) that industry can't just produce more of.
000
punt @punt1.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
big concerts are already musical chairs disguised as normal markets, i guess this could accelerate people realizing that most arenas have 25,000 seats in regions with millions of people and it can be a lottery or an auction but not everyone who wants in can fit, but i doubt it.

deposits could solve many of these issues. i.e if you reserve a table and show up like you're supposed to, nothing happens- the deposit just lowers the bill at the end. it only prevents bots booking 20 reservations and no-showing 19 of them.

it's still mind boggling to me how big homebuilders and developers can talk about energy codes or interest rates for hours but this basic stuff just falls by the wayside. it's like if every new car had to carry a dozen spare tires and they were just like, ugh, these fuel efficiency standards.

he could simply decline to play instead of having a computer do it! if you invited someone to play GTA or scrabble or whatever and found out they were actually just having the computer play for them, do you seriously think you’d be cool with that?

I don’t see the connection there. how does making street lights cheaper fix bad nfpa 130 interpretations?

it’s weird how the US has seemingly zero eu-style shared courtyards, but the 5-over-1 central courtyards/pools are pretty popular

idk, there were more sedans back in 2008 and it was still a factor then.

yeah you could also say that prices on the upper east side being higher per square foot than long island must indicate higher demand for dense walkable urban living than suburbs/exurbs. turns out people can't act on certain preferences if you ban acting on them!

disappointed that it has stairs in the back. many EU buses don't have them, it's just a little slope towards the back. makes getting back there much easier.

you can separate the good times from the specific media. the feeling of being a kid watching cartoons was nice but it usually wasn’t specifically about ren and stimpy or whatever, and bringing the show back wont make you 9 years old again. and that’s okay!

a lot of these groups just seem motivated by saying no to stuff, which may be understandable but doesn't really answer the question of how we're going to power everything. this seems like an advantage of coalition governments, even smaller parties need to write an actual platform and negotiate.

yeah, just because someone uses it in their own life doesn't mean they want ai graphic design ads everywhere or whatever. insisting that nobody could possibly find ai useful in any way whatsoever is just incorrect.
