I have only seen one local candidate send out that dogwhistle and that's Kellie Torres. Some modest evidence of it in her donor base but it's mostly local and I try to be careful about leveling that accusation so I'm not leveling it here.

As a mom of five kids who’s led some of the most progressive policies helping working class families, I’m proud to have earned this endorsement. Please help me get over the finish line with a donation of $5-$25 dollars! 🙏

In case my position on Moda isn’t clear, here’s my take. And also, I only have three weeks left to make the full Tier 1 match (I don’t need to get to Tier 2 to do all the things!) so if you like my position and want me fighting for you in District 4, please donate $5-$25 to help me get there!

As an organization, I think your highest value is in doing something pretty similar. Tell people who to rank and how (no more than 3), and then either suggesting another rank or at least tacitly indicating which viable non-endorsee you think would be the best for your values or interests.

Jonathan Pulvers @pulverizer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Example: My 2024 ballot supported a candidate who was eliminated, then a candidate who crossed the threshold (2nd), and then counted partially for a candidate competing for the remaining spot. Never exhausted, always counting for candidates in the thick of things.
110
Jonathan Pulvers @pulverizer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Now you've set it up so that if your whole or partial vote still remains after it's counted for all the candidates you like, it can play a role in determining which candidates on the other side of the ledger will win a seat.
130
Jonathan Pulvers @pulverizer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
BUT: Once you've completed that step, there's some harm reduction in which your ballot can still engage. Assuming you don't find six candidates you like, use the last spot on your ballot to rank the remaining VIABLE candidate you dislike least.
130
Jonathan Pulvers @pulverizer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
As a voter: First, rank the candidates you like in the order you prefer them. That's the simple part, and I sometimes stop there when I'm advising voters (especially seniors) who seem confused or put off by the new system. 99+% of the time that will get your vote where it needs to go.

Seeing a bunch of discourse about this issue and thought I'd chime in with my perspective as a campaign staffer who is working/has worked on Council races in '24 and '26. Tldr: I think there is a way to maximize this as a voter or as an org. 🧵

I absolutely do not think that opposing Israel is anti-Semitic. I do think that glorifying the grisly mass murder (and rape and etc) of 1000+ Jews is anti-semitic. Full stop no equivocation. Everyone else should too I'm sick of doing this work alone.

Jonathan Pulvers @pulverizer.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I think people should do a better job of knowing what they don't know in life. As for me whether it's Eric Zimmerman or anyone else I don't really appreciate gentiles lecturing me about what is or is not anti-Semitic

Throw in the name and the imagery and I'm pretty sure I know what we're dealing with here. It is actually on us in the movement to root this out.

I mean it's tasteless in the same way that demonstrating against reparations on Juneteenth would be but you do you? Are the other 364 days not enough to express our disgust at the Israeli response? They have sufficed for me.

It's only possible to think this if you lack any context whatsoever for "al-aqsa flood" which cannot be treated any way other than turning Hamas into martyrs. I'm pretty fed up with our movement seeing people uplifting the worst human behavior in history and saying "those kooky cousins of ours."

more moderate but unpredictable and refusing to fundraise or compete for endorsements. D2 has Ong-Norris backed by DSA (their first foray into a county race); Williams left-aligned and appealing to the heart of the black community here; Cruz in the middle with broad support; Greene & Zaghloul right

New RCV colors everything. Chair is the most powerful executive office in Oregon imho. Comm. Singleton is running as the progressive, a little lackluster on the campaign side so far. Comm Brim-Edwards is the establishment choice with the most $, labor, business etc. Meieran is a wild card...

A renter, car-free transit rider, and mom of five, Jamey Evenstar @jameyevenstar.bsky.social is a Portland policy wonk committed to delivering for her working class neighbors. In her questionnaire and interview she proved that her diverse and dynamic ideas are rooted in evidence and experience.

She supports Inner Eastside for All and champions innovative, values-aligned legislation. Evenstar was also part of the work to transition to our new form of government, and wants to see the Council strengthen the power the new Charter bestows upon them.

Did anyone notice how the only way the City Council was able to vote down the Zenith franchise transfer was because one of the moderates was absent? We shouldn’t have to rely on councilors not coming to work in order to protect our climate.

Apparently she was also in "Brooklyn Bridge," an unbearably schlocky early '90s TV show sort of transplanting Mayberry or the Wonder Years into 1950s Jewish Brooklyn. Ironically Jenny is Jewish but played the Irish-Catholic girlfriend of the protagonist.

I mean everyone knows who Fred Wonder Years Savage is but I had no idea about Jenny's early career here. Adds immeasurably to the legend. Her solo stuff is a big family favorite.

From the article: “'Taking my mind off of my pure hatred for the Portland police by watching 1989 hit The Wizard, starring Fred Savage and Jenny Lewis on VHS with my wife,' he wrote in September 2021." I did a double take. Is that the same Jenny Lewis as in Rilo Kiley?

All true. The vagueness didn't help any. I *think* what she was getting at was that both the DSA and the Jewish Federation have unhelpful litmus tests around Israel that most people and especially most Jews would fail. If so, she's... not wrong.

This is accurate as applied to Zimmerman and Smith. I think EPG was trying to say something a little different, even if Sophie Peel saw it differently.
