Making tacos al pastor and I think the code has been cracked for the accompanying salsa: use two different sizes of pineapple chunks to enrich the texture.

Our native-plant expert landscaper advised us to eliminate the invasive buckthorn stump by injecting it with turkey tail mushroom plugs. A year and a half later, this is the result. It's like a mushroom cake. Huzzah!

If you're visiting Prince Edward County this summer, do yourself a favour and check out Smoking J's Barbecue truck, located on the grounds of the Cressy Mustard Co. The food is sublime. My only regret is that I didn't pick up jars of mustard while there.
Pictured are succulent pork ribs, pickled onions, sweet pickles and barbecue sauce on a sheet of butcher's paper.

Here's the text I wrote to my MP recently. Please feel free to pull a few lines for talking points. I've added alt text from which you can copy and paste. #climatecrisis #Canada
Today I was introduced to a quote from Ansel Adams that encapsulates how I’m feeling as a Canadian and Ontarian: It is horrifying that we have to fight our own government to save the environment.

When I voted for you as Ottawa Centre’s representative in Parliament, and even contributed to the federal Liberal campaign, I’d hoped that the interests of Canadians would be prioritized over those of corporate shareholders, or the capricious monument building of vapid premiers.

Instead, I’m seeing that we’re playing footsie with separatists for the sake of the climate destroying oil industry, we’re ready to obliterate Toronto’s waterfront to needlessly augment a superfluous airport, and building ravenous data centres that will likely kick off the next disastrous financial bubble to burst.

I’ve been an adult long enough to be disappointed by elected officials before, but I’ve never been more disappointed.

The bumblebees have pollinated the Prairie Smoke plants, as evidenced by the blossoms sporting Troll Doll style hairdos.

My listening to Tudor history podcasts has not gone unnoticed by my family, as evidenced by the Anne of Cleves ornament in my stocking. Huzzah!

Our holiday tradition: reading Roddy Doyle's Rover Saved Christmas aloud with comically bad approximations of Irish accents.

I have an old memoriam marking the passage of a number of ancestors who died in rapid succession, likely of TB. I used to display it as a conversation piece, but their experiences now seem much less like a remote possibility these days.

We found a bunny nesting in our planter a few days ago. The kits have emerged.

The household pre-teen has become a massive Go-Go’s fan. She was ecstatic to find a pristine, used Beauty and the Beat album this weekend.

Without any Norwegian mentors around, my husband had to settle for a lefse cookbook he bought in Winnipeg.
