Also Congratulations to Dr. Ploykamol Suwantawit on recently passing her viva! It's great to hear some of her findings. For example, protestors were motivated by the fear of a 'lost future' and a sense that 'it's now or never'. Emotions were also often tied to regret and guilt over past inaction.

Next up we've got @psuwantawit.bsky.social sharing her research on the emotional trajectories of Thailand's anti-government protests. She argues that emotions should not be overlooked in protests research, as they shape mobilisation and resilience.

AMAZING presentation by @psuwantawit.bsky.social at the @psampg.bsky.social panel! Such important work based on her thesis which is brilliant. Can't wait to see this published 🙌

It’s such a weird feeling when I don’t know what my life should look like after finishing a PhD. My life has centred around it for four years, and now what? 🥲

It’s been a month since I officially passed my viva 🤓🎓🎉. A four-year journey has finally come to an end. I’m still feeling a bit overwhelmed by it, but honestly, I’m so happy to share that I’m officially #PhDone 😊👩‍🎓✨

i guess this got announced today . . . Fandom Is Ugly won the National Communication Association Diamond Anniversary Book Award www.natcom.org/nca-awards/2...

award announcement text: Fandom Is Ugly: Networked Harassment in Participatory Culture by Dr. Mel Stanfill is recognized with the Diamond Anniversary Book Award for its incisive and timely analysis of the hidden costs of participatory culture. Drawing on vivid case studies from video games, television, film, and politics, Stanfill demonstrates how fan networks that foster creativity and connection can also perpetuate harassment, sexism, racism, and exclusion. By exposing these dynamics with clarity and rigor, this book reshapes how scholars and the public understand the cultural and political stakes of fandom, making a profound contribution to the study of communication, community, and power.

We have seen conferences and conference travel get more expensive while our travel funds, especially in the humanities and even social sciences dwindle. Perhaps this is a time to reconsider the purpose of conferences. Socializing and brainstorming in person is very important, but... #AcademicSky
