I always get them in the same arm at the same time. Flu shot hurts more going in, but no other issues aside from a very temporary sore left arm.

Very first - the flying monkeys on The Wizard of Oz. A little later - the TV show Dark Shadows and especially the character Barnabas Collins. Hard to believe that show was a weekday afternoon soap opera!

Sorry, I do not know her. I grew up in the Northern Panhandle and I don't recall it as being as coal-focused as the rest of the state, at least not back then. (I haven't lived in WV since graduating from WVU many years ago - though 2 of my sisters still live there.)

2/2 well enough that Arch spoke at his funeral. My grandfather didn't defend Nixon but it was painful for him, as was Moore's later incarceration. (In an "only in WV" scenario, Arch had defeated my Dem paternal grandfather in a WV congressional race in the late '50s by about 700 votes.)

I was 10-11 yrs old during the Watergate years & watched the hearings with my paternal granny, who hated Nixon & thus was glued to them. My maternal granddad had been our state's GOP chair, a delegate to several conventions, attended Nixon's 1st inauguration, & knew Arch Moore (this punk's grandad)

This is enraging. My late uncle contracted polio at age 15 not long before the vaccine was available. He spent much of his freshman year of HS in quarantine. He'd been a promising athlete, but ended up in tremendous pain for the rest of his life with one leg several inches shorter than the other.

Green Street Friends Meeting, a Quaker congregation in Germantown, pledged to spend $50,000 a year for 10 years as part of its reparations work. It’s helping Black Philadelphians become homeowners.

Absolutely insane 5 minutes of testimony. Unimaginable in any other administration.

I’m reading it now in paperback. Very, um, illuminating.

This guy deserves all the roasting he’s getting. And WVU, as others have noted, is going down a bad path (e.g., the waste of money that is the Washington Center for Civics, Culture & Statesmanship). But I have to stick up for the excellent professors I had in the WVU English Dept.

He was talking about Brooks for the most part, but later he mentions a recently departed collywho accused the left of McCarthyism and that is a reference to Douthat.

I took Con Law from Susan Koniak when she was a visiting professor at my law school in the early 90s. She was very animated. One class she ripped up a $20 bill while lecturing - can’t remember exactly what the point was (I think legal fictions) but I do remember the action!

I remember my kindergarten teacher coming into our class the day after MLK's assassination crying and then explaining in terms we could understand that a great man had died. That was in a smallish town in WV - she would probably be fired if she did that today.

New Orleans. Can’t explain it, but to me, it’s the most American city.

Welcome to Pittsburgh on this sweltering holiday! Anthrocon is a Pittsburgh tradition and Pittsburgh treats them well. Saw a bunch of the attendees (in their suits and otherwise) while heading to the Strip District a few hours ago. It always seems to land on the hottest days of the year.

I know 3-4 people among my immediate family/friends who got it in their late 30's; 2 of them were so bad they had to be hospitalized. i had a mild case when I was abt 50. Got the 2-dose vaccine last year & probably delayed more than I should have because I'd heard it was so painful. It wasn't!

I don’t remember exactly when it closed, but long enough that the restaurant that replaced it just closed! (It was still in full swing when I was in law school across the street in the early 90s!)

When I first moved to Pittsburgh from Virginia, that’s exactly how I thought it was pronounced. In Allegheny County, the Prothonotary’s office looked exactly how you’d expect it to look - like it hadn’t been updated since the 1920s or 30s. Haven’t been there in years, though.

When a regime clearly holds the rule of law in contempt, and views itself as completely above the law, it and its agents don’t have any moral argument for the protections of the rule of law.

Yes; if you had told 2L or 3L me that DOJ would one day have to stoop to this, I wouldn’t have believed you. I have many lawyer friends who would have loved to work there, both in early career & after gaining excellent law firm experience. It’s shameful but this admin seems immune to shame.

In SW PA, I’ve seen no TV ads for PA-17 or other local Cong. races, just social media; though my rep, Chris DeLuzio, is very visible at local events. The most frequent (& grating) TV ads are for a Washington Cty State Senator, Camera Bartolotta, who’s hitched her wagon firmly to Trump.
