This is a good example of why I am not a fan of the pivot to podcasts/audio articles. It says it takes 6 minutes to read (actually about 3 mins max), but 9 minutes to listen to. Audio is just such a SLOW way to consume words.

Met Office - weather and climate @metoffice.gov.uk · 06/10/2026
Today is the 117th consecutive day somewhere in the UK has recorded a temperature of 20°C or higher. The 11th of June was the last time we didn't reach this threshold. Fresher air comes in on Wednesday allowing temperatures to fall, and likely to stay just below 20°C.

Yes - it's why "house prices" will always be the no1 consumer econ story. It's about retirement, legacy, old age care etc Plus the age curve on ownership (not mortgage-holders) is towards the retired, who may have a particular social/political take on development compared to younger generations.

It seems that so much wealth is stored in housing now, it's so important to people's futures in a very uncertain and fast-changing economy, any attempt to build is seen as diluting the stock and hurting their investment. Hence any scheme *must* be contrary to homeowners' interests.

It's not considered in these discussions that the reason local and national government want to build houses might be so that families can live in them and contribute to society and the economy.

I'm a longtime lurker in local FB groups to gauge NIMBY opinion on housing developments. Striking how often I see a conspiracy theory that the council wants to house "bad tenants," i.e. poor people, among the the not-poor people (sometimes linked to immigration and small boats.)

Broadsheets
Unlimited fonts
Stretch them
Or cram a really long sentence into one line for no good reason
No whitespace
Mix capital and lowercase
Pointing hands

Don't be left behind
Broadsheets are the future

It seems unlikely England would require something like the Iron Dome system, unless we were expecting an imminent attack from Wales.

I'm not sure there is a very wide understanding of Israel's air defense systems, how it works, how it is funded and exactly what it does. "Iron Dome" is one part of it. Useful BBC infographic:

$160 billion in wealth leaving Britain, largely due to Labour's tax changes. You can argue about tax burdens generally, but the top 1% of UK earners account for about 27% all income tax revenue, so this is not a minor issue.
