Instead of a "super-profits tax," big business proposed saving the budget by devaluing the ruble.

The Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs—the country's largest business association, representing companies accounting for 60% of the national GDP—has criticized the tax hikes the government is introducing starting in 2027 to fill the deficit-ridden military budget.

According to Kommersant , in a letter sent by RSPP head Alexander Shokhin to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, the union emphasizes that the new taxes run counter to the government's promise to maintain fiscal conditions until 2030.

‼️ Russia: “The Kuzbass Governor proposed locating data centers in abandoned coal mines.” 🇷🇺: What could possibly go wrong? www.interfax.ru/russia/1122626
IN RUSSIA

The Kuzbass Governor proposed locating data centers in abandoned coal mines.

Moscow. October 15. INTERFAX.RU - Placing data centers in abandoned coal mines will help support the coal industry and improve the site's security, Kemerovo Region Governor Ilya Seredyuk stated during a session of Russian Energy Week.

"Data centers can be located in abandoned open-pit mines, in the quarries of our coal companies, which today coal miners must reclaim, fill, and improve," he said. "This is, roughly speaking, a large pit, 300 meters deep. If the entire infrastructure of a data center, a computing center, a mining center were placed there, the capital expenditures for creating such data centers would be minimal. There's no need for reclamation; this money should be used to create a new economy."

The governor estimates that a monolithic building "of 10 stories, 12-16 stories not up, but down" could be lowered into the depleted quarry, and the water in the quarries and underground rivers would help reduce operating and capital costs for cooling systems.

ECONOMY → INFLATION IN RUSSIA
8:00 pm, october 14, 2026

The Bank of Russia has removed its July forecast for the year from its inflation commentary.

The Central Bank will issue a new forecast after its October key rate meeting.

Moscow. October 14. INTERFAX.RU - The Bank of Russia has removed its July inflation forecast for 2026 and 2027 from its commentary, promising to present a new estimate following the board's key rate meeting in October.

"The Bank of Russia's monetary policy is aimed at returning annual inflation to the target level of 4%. The inflation forecast, as part of the Bank of Russia's medium-term forecast, will be published following the key rate meeting on October 23, 2026," the Central Bank said in a commentary.

In a similar document assessing inflation for August, the Bank of Russia noted that in the baseline scenario, taking into account the current monetary policy, annual inflation will amount to 6-7% in 2026, return to 4% in 2027, and remain on target thereafter (July forecast).

Annual inflation in the country exceeded the Central Bank's upper forecast in the first week of October amid tariff increases. Based on calculations based on Rosstat data, this figure rose to 7.22% on October 12, up from 7.13% on October 5 and 6.35% at the end of September.

The size of the fire at the OSB plant in Tomsk has tripled.

Moscow. October 14. INTERFAX.RU - Firefighters in Tomsk have contained a 3,000-square-meter fire at an OSB panel manufacturing plant, the regional Emergency Situations Ministry reported.

"The firefighting effort is complicated by the high fire load inside the building," the statement said.

Previous reports indicated the fire covered 1,000 square meters and involved drying equipment inside the plant. According to preliminary reports, there were no injuries.

The only OSB board production plant in Tomsk is located on Kuzovlevsky tract and belongs to Monolit-Stroy LLC (brand name Latat).

OSB (from the English word "Oriented Strand Board") is an oriented strand board (OSB), a sheet material made from compressed wood chips with the addition of resin binders. In Russia, it is also known as OSB (oriented strand board).

😂 They may as well ask Russian Railways to stop being Russian Railways IT WILL GET WORSE
In its letter, Russian Steel specifically requests that the regularity of rail shipments to Northwest ports be improved, including the provision of necessary resources (locomotives and locomotive crews) to meet all freight transport requests and prevent the risk of shutdowns at metallurgical plants. The letter also requests that temporary priority be given to the shipment of finished products from continuous-cycle plants through Northwest ports, as well as the temporary acceptance of metallurgical cargo in this direction upon presentation.

"Unlike grain, similar decisions regarding transportation priority and reduced rail tariffs are not envisaged for metal products," said another agency source. "As a result, shipping costs are rising and the competitiveness of Russian metal products is declining. This rising cost only exacerbates the difficult situation for Russian metal producers."

Surprise, this adds more expenses!
According to data cited by Russkaya Stal in a letter to the Deputy Minister of Transport, from January to August, the volume of rail shipments of metallurgical products through the ports of the Azov-Black Sea basin fell by 21%, to 6 million tons from 7.2 million tons a year earlier, due to threats to the safety of merchant shipping in the waters of the Azov-Black Sea basin ports. In July and August alone, shipment volumes fell by 54%, to 860,000 tons from 1.86 million tons a year earlier.

At the same time, rerouting cargo to Northwestern ports increases logistics costs. For example, the cost of transporting slabs is $30 higher than in southern ports, and the slow rate of cargo acceptance prevents steelmakers from forming shiploads and chartering vessels, the letter notes. Steelmakers also note that stevedoring companies in Northwestern ports offer terms that "significantly impair the economic efficiency of rerouting cargo flow from southern ports."
