FIRST TEST OF DA DIGITAL RANGEFINDER. IN 645 FLAVOR. IT KINDA SLAPS. i mean not literally cause its not a mirrored device shhh. its: very heavy. i probably need a better grip for it. but its also very fun. :)

perhaps against the best interests of my wallet, i have found a place that does mail-in 8x10 dev for the same price that i’ve been paying for 4x5

I am considering either getting an analogue Leica M again or getting into 8x10". But for 8x10", I need to figure out something for developing and printing myself (probably some sort of darkroom I can hire out, since I can't do it at home. Yes I know it's possible, but it doesn't work out in my case)

The Leica I model B is off for a CLA 🫡. Lens is pretty hazy and I figure the nearly 100-year-old Compur shutter could use a service too. And such a nice camera deserves to be in top condition mechanically imo.

to paraphrase a conversation i was having elsewhere: how the fuck do you get better at making art like i can operate nearly any contraption with some level of competence by now but my photos are still shit

view down shadowed street, one person in middle distance, a few more far away. sunlight catches the curved front of a building ahead, reflecting wavy paths of light that scatter towards the camera

Some more comparisons: - Leica FOTOS is actually good, especially in comparison to Fujifilm XApp. Connecting works, and is fast, as are downloads. XApp fails to connect for me quite a bit and takes ages to download a photo.

Opened up the Copal 3 to inspect the flash sync mechanism, it’s extremely simple being X-sync only. I suspect the circled piece is oxidised or something and making bad contact

Hasselblad back interface arrived, going to use this as the back for my custom scanning camera, with the Coolscan lens in the Copal 3 on the other end of the bellows

So one thing I realised getting this setup is that the Copal 3 retaining ring is Big. I am definitely going to need a custom "camera" for this

I did some more experiments with this, this time properly calibrating my Big Scanlight's RGB output (through a piece of blank developed colour film) to each of the CCD sensors I have. And well, the CCD cameras (4 of them!) deliver consistently good results with a simple "histogram stretching" invert

i lost the lens board to my 150mm nikkor (how did i do that, you ask? well,,). so this is shot on a schneider 90/5.6, with the camera awkwardly close to the subject.

I don't want to jump to conclusions, but the Aptus seems *amazing* for film digitising? Both of these are Ektar 100 scanned with a Big Scanlight, and a WB + "Convert Negative" in Capture One. First image is scanned with a Nikon D810, second is the with the Aptus. #believeinfilm
