I was one of those kids who read dictionaries when they were bored and there wasn't a new book in the house (I'm awkward, old school, and still figuring this out. Couldn't ever stand the Other Place so I'm a complete noob here)

The only reason I hope there is a literal Hell is that the mfs that put my family through a living one should burn in it.

He died because of the prohibition on blood transfusions. The Elders didn't let my mother enter a meeting with the doctors without them, until the day we were told there was nothing more they could do. They lied about the effects of low hemoglobin levels. They disparaged his name after he died.

I was raised in a JW house. My dad was a polio survivor who dealt with dehabilitating levels of pain who had no choice but to take amounts of ibuprofen and Tylenol that inflicted bleeding stomach ulcers just to get through the day.

"We've known Dad didn't have to die. They just made it official." Fucking fundamentalist bullshit. They didn't care that he still had children at home. They preferred to have a matyr. #exjw

I've had two playlists, that up until now I've kept separate. One, a list of my anger music which serves as my "protest playlist." Two, a list of the Vietnam protest music I got introduced to by my dad. Today they got smashed together. I'll be in this space until further notice.

My eighth grader is possibly going to need do extra credit for their SS/US history class. I'm strongly suggesting they think about doing a compare and contrast paper on reconstruction v redemption @strictscrutiny.bsky.social can you recommend any layman's language sources? Or send me on to someone?

When you're old enough to predate AO3, still have the first "grownup" email address you claimed and you get a ping from ffn that somebody followed something that hasn't even been looked at in good knows how long #fanfiction #godimold

We're in the sticks and getting to protests is a money prioritiesion things. But my sign is prepped. "Fear is a mind killer, a little death that brings obliteration. I have faced my fear; only my dissent remains."

To be serious, certain building materials have a tendance to block signals. I worked for a very old motel, that our lower level was concrete on all outer walls and some internal load bearers. Even with a reflector set up, some of the rooms never had good wifi

My Nazi Germany/Holocaust education was some thing of a drop a newborn into a pool and see how they swim exposure. Parents were Jehovah's Witnesses so we had those VHS in the house that our access to wasn't limited. 1/2

It's lovely when you're just trying to find something to put on for noise while you fall asleep and the channel plays next a made for TV documentary from 2017 about how Hitler used Christianity and it's imaginary to strengthen his position. </S> Oh god, the echos. I just wanted something benign.

My relationship with formalized religion is difficult. Personal faith that I can understand and empathize with. But formal systems of religion; can't really help it they rub me weird. But for some reason I could never exactly put a finger on Pope Francis struck me as different. I think this is why:

Tried to search for a sticker that said "The Courts won't save us." The search options were trash. Need stickers. But maybe a play on "SCOTUS won't save us" would be better anyways? Dunno.

And just to be clear "showing cleavage" included others (the men & older boys, of course) being able to look down my top because it wasn't laying smoothly.

Can't decide if the instinct to stand straight when I am wearing heels is influenced more by the simple fact you have to hold your weight differently or the trauma of having the little old ladies of the congregation say I needed to stand straight so I didn't show cleavage starting when I was ten.

It's from that place that the only word I can find for the idea that we humans can create true artificial intelligence is blasphemy. And when I face history with honesty for the moment we are in, I can only call the actions of this administration fascist. 4/4

Ask me now for the honest answer and I will tell you I am personally atheist, philosophically agnostic. My personal lack of greater faith does not matter when faced with the idea of evolutionary relevancy. Religion has provided something to us, else we would have discarded it a long time ago. 3/4

There was a woman with a number tattooed on her arm in our congregation. She was elderly and I was young, she passed before a serious conversation could be had about why, which path had made her anathema, but she did gently explain she got it "during the war." 2/4

I was raised by Jehovah's Witness parents. I can't exactly say when I first came to understand what the Holocaust referred to. The yellow Star of David, the Purple Triangle; they were a part of history that intertwined with my childhood. 1/4
