🚰 The following City Councillors recently voted to cut $9M in one-time climate and environment operating expenses, including water conservation efforts. (Tyers, Wyness, Dhaliwal, Pantazopoulos, Chabot, Ward, Jamieson, McLean, Johnston) #yyccc #yyc www.projectcalgary.org/budget_2026_...

🛩️ Billionaire Flames owners will pocket 100% of the estimated >$100M per year in arena revenues. Under the terms of the agreement, the billionaire Flames owners will collect 100% of arena operating revenues, estimated to be north of $100M annually based on financial info from a 2024 Forbes report.

🤑 While the Sharp and the City are telling Calgarians that the Flames owners will contribute $356-million (38%) towards the arena over the course of the 35-year agreement, they will actually only be contributing as little as $170-million (18%).

💸 The arena deal even worse for taxpayers than advertised. Just when it seemed like you couldn’t have imagined a worse deal than the one announced in April 2023, that socialized the costs on the backs of taxpayers and privatized the profits billionaires, Sonya Sharp found a way.

🤠 Calgarians are united in opposition to 'reckless' "Dreeshen Drawing" elevated alignment through Beltline and downtown. Residents, businesses small and large, real estate and property developers are united in opposing the disastrous "Dreeshen Drawing" plan.

🤑The Province is backing an underground arena and coal mine for foreign billionaires, but refuses to fund efficient underground public transit for Calgarians.

🎪 This capitulation foreshadows the potential future under a UCP-controlled city council led by the UCP-controlled Billionaires First municipal political party. Electing an independent local gov in the Oct 2025 election will be crucial to saving our public funds from being diverted to billionaires.

💰The City of Calgary will be legally liable for $100's of millions in downtown property value impacts. The City estimated the cost of these liabilities could fall in the order of $100's of millions of dollars.

💸 The disastrous "Dreeshen Drawing" plan risks bankrupting the City of Calgary and putting our local government and essential services at greater risk of further provincial interference.

✅ Thank you to the Mayor and 5 councillors who voted against the Province's disastrous "Dreeshen Drawing" downtown alignment. Shout out for standing Calgarian's ground against the Provincial Government's riskier, more expensive plan.

🤮Councillor Sonya Sharp and her UCP-controlled Billionaires First municipal political party led a block of city councillors in a capitulation to the Provincial Government's 'reckless' elevated Green Line alignment through the Beltline and Downtown. billionairesfirst.ca

For those trying to understand the incompetence of the UCP Government here's the gist of what happened today: The Province told City Council to vote for the riskier, more expensive $7.5-billion "Dreeshen Drawing" or lose $3-billion in provincial and federal funding.

🔫Calgary's real estate and development industry has put the finishing bullet in the disastrous Dreeshen-Smith elevated Green Line alignment: 📄"We feel it would be reckless to support the proposed elevated solution in the Beltline and Downtown" ❌Nobody supports the Dreeshen doodle line.

💩 Even the Banff Passenger Rail boosters "Friends of CABR" are implying that Devin Dreeshen shat the bed with his crayon map Green Line proposal for elevated alignment through Downtown and Beltline. mailchi.mp/friendsofcab...

🖍️Devin Dreeshen declared his disastrous crayon drawing the "The best Green Line alignment anyone could develop". 🤡 So when he finally released the AECOM report, why did he redact the "PREFERRED DOWNTOWN OPTION" section unless maybe it says something other than what he's been telling Calgarians?

🤠Thanks to everyone who helped call out this total garbage from the province. 🥊LET'S KEEP FIGHTING FOR THE GREEN LINE! If funding a new underground arena for billionaires was acceptable, Danielle Smith should have no issues funding underground public transit for Calgarians.

Project Calgary @projectcalgary.bsky.social · 18/12/2024
🥳Thanks to citizen push back, Devin Dreeshen has finally released the "confidential" AECOM report - but it's dead on arrival given that we now know it's an even more costly + risky. Of note, the report fails to contemplate the proposed elevated Banff Passenger Rail alignment.

😱IT GETS WORSE. BNA missed the proposed elevated Banff Passenger Line along CPKC tracks. See revised rendering below. 🤔Maybe one of these should be buried underground?

📋GREEN LINE REPORT CARD⭐️ With all the info and misinformation flying around out there, we decided to set the record straight. The plans put forward by the City of Calgary are the ONLY viable options. Anything else is just a sideshow distraction🤡🎪. 🥋CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER 🥊

🤑Underground arena for billionaires, but no underground public transit for the rest of us. The new arena is being constructed underground with ice level 37-ft below street level (left). Meanwhile the Province refuses to fund underground Green Line construction across the street.

What good is the AEMCOM report if it excludes a long list of things that could potentially wildly increase the cost of the "cheaper" elevated Green Line option? -Potential litigation; -Termination of contracts; -Utility re-re-locations; -Stranded / sunk costs -Delays 🍺 It's amateur hour again.

On the Green Line, Sharp and McLean have echoed those of an affluent special interest group's attacks on the project's plans created through years of public engagement with Calgarians. They are silent as the UCP now mangles the project.

💸Subsidizing sprawl and gatekeeping new housing Sharp and McLean voted to prioritize the profits of wealthy suburban developers over improving affordability for Calgarians living in existing communities. They continue to gatekeep new housing in Calgary in favour of more costly sprawl developments.

🛩️ Councillors have track record of putting billionaires first and pushing austerity on the rest of us. The two sitting city councillors most likely to lead this party, Sonya Sharp and Dan McLean, infamously worked with Smith to spearhead the >$1-billion public arena subsidy for billionaires.

☮️ Building more homes is a priority across partisan lines - except for the local gatekeepers. Both Trudeau and PP are united in their support for building more housing in cities. Unfortunately, in Calgary local housing gatekeepers on city council are standing in the way.
