On the surface, Trump's executive orders on school discipline are about rules. But what they actually do is roll back years of progress made to protect Black students from being punished and pushed out of classrooms at rates far higher than their White peers. #WayOuttaNoWay

All Chicago public school students now benefit from easier access to libraries. What caught our attention isn't just what it gives students access to, it's what it removes. The barriers that make access uneven. How have you accessed resources that weren’t readily available to you? #WayOuttaNoWay

Don’t despair. Yes, it’s a horrible system. But no matter how powerful it is, every system has weak points that can be used to collapse it. But you have to be willing to scrutinize it, to look for the leverage points. #Juneteenth #SystemicRacism #Resilience

I don’t primarily blame hip hop artists for the destructive narratives in their songs. They’re often entertaining, but that's the facade of an incredibly brilliant cultural capitalism. It gives you yourself back with all of the values they have and none of the values that you have.

The dehumanization of Black people is a long-standing device of racist storytelling. It is part of a bigger anti-civil-rights project to justify the destruction of equal rights for all human beings, especially the rights of Black and Brown people. Go to my website to see the entire BBC segment.

Reflecting on the legacy of Rev Jackson yesterday on the BBC, I shared my view that his greatest legacy is a coalition building powered by a moral vision of mutual recognition, not policy negotiations. This builds bridges between us and gives us the courage to cross them.
