iiinova — where your digital self keeps evolving

I just finished a 2 hour meeting of our hiring committee to decide who to invite for first round interviews. As always, I come away with two conclusions: 1. You people do not make it easy to make decisions! So much incredibly cool work being done. 2. The future of economics is in very good hands.

When dogrates moves here it’s all over for X. The reunion of the dogrates/ darthbluesky.bsky.social synergy will be the final blow. Among functional adults at least.

Thanks to starter packs and the Brazilian influx a few weeks back, I now have nearly triple the followers here than I did on Twitter, despite rarely posting anything. I think it’s pretty clear the network effect of the old cesspool has finally been overcome, for econtwitter at least.

Thank you, that was badly needed. Did I zoom in on every single one? Yes, yes I did.

Dear people new to #bluesky: Consider adding a profile picture and short profile blurb before following a bunch of people. This masks it easier to distinguish you from the bots and crypto scammers. 👌🏼

I’m starting to see more posts here about cool stuff that people are working on than at the bad place. That’s awesome. However, it means that Bluesky needs to implement a bookmark function immediately please!

This week I got an email from one of my favorite students ever. He’s starting the phd program at Minnesota and was having his first bout of impostor syndrome. All I could think was this.

Tobbler, who appears to be their tripod relative, agrees that this was a good idea.

#econsky 📈📉 I have 5 codes that have built up to give to remaining econtwitter refugees. Anyone with more reach than me want to go back over there to give them out?

My landline in theory still exists. But there hasn’t been a phone plugged into it for over 10 years ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If you unfollow 95% of the stuff you used to have in your feed on the old site and keep just the fun stuff, there are still some real gems that come through @darthbluesky.bsky.social

You going to DC, NYC, or LA this preseason? I have NYC tickets but am going with a colleague who is a United fan. Ugh!
