Could this be a side effect of voters misunderstanding how to vote in multi seat wards and a proportion of them only voting for one candidate, reading down the paper until they find their preferred party?

Nor ever will there be reliable biomarkers, as many mental disorders seem to have neither a biological basis nor a biologically mediated mechanism.

many people think that being a councillor is a full-time, salaried position, rather than something ranging from totally voluntary to minimum wage, part time.

Den stora älgvandringen – The Story of the Great Moose Migration
This is the story of how the 24-hour live stream The Great Moose Migration came to be - and how a niche slow TV experiment came close to failing before becoming an international cultural phenomenon.

they’ve literally just announced plans to abolish local district councils and move services to more remote unitary councils. good first step would be to quash these changes in local government

If the goal of a Masters or phD were to ‘produce a thesis’ then yes AI can do it. But the goal is to learn how to do the research and integration and innovation, and the thesis is something you write to demonstrate that you have achieved that goal. That’s why we also have the oral viva.

yes, the same land where the line from London to Penzance is upgraded to HS. Obviously a joke if you’ve ever been on the line between Exeter and Newton Abbot.

Jon May @profjonmay.bsky.social · 20/05/2026
Can you fly from london to birmingham in less than 1hr17m (including security and boarding)? Driving must take 3hrs centre to centre. The existing train is fast enough and HS2 may end up no faster, but with less capacity. Lon-Truro is 4h30 so would benefit from HS. Plus Dawlish at 300mph…

A fast train from London to Birmingham is pointless but to Edinburgh, Glasgow or Truro makes sense. Maybe it would have been cheaper to move Birmingham a few miles South.

The GWR company was formed in 1833, and the line from London to Bristol was completed in 1841. It got to Plymouth in 1849, 16 years after starting, but Penzance took until 1867, 34 years after starting. Fast at first, but then not so different.
