A police search using Flock was a form of ‘mass surveillance,’ judge rules
A federal judge said that police conducted an “unconstitutional warrantless search” by using Flock cameras to reconstruct a woman’s travels without probable cause.

But the result could be that an author who did not use AI to draft would still be flagged by an AI detection scan. We have focused correctly on the need for author disclosure and perhaps not using AI to draft, (I don’t use any FYI), but I worry that one could still be flagged if the editors do.

Do you know if there are any conversations going on about law review editors using AI to edit accepted articles? I can imagine that across the hundreds of law reviews that there will be a temptation to use AI to fix footnotes, add parentheticals, and even edit. 1/2

Your license plate can reveal who you are and now with ALPR where you have travelled over 30 days. Should a police officer be able to find that location data on a whim? Or should they only be able to search with particularized suspicion that you did something wrong? That is the heart of the debate.

Andrew Ferguson makes an important point. Judge Hill's ruling is another step along the path of judges considering how Flock functions as a system. @profferguson.bsky.social "said the case was notable in that it treated the technology as a 'tracking system' rather than just a 'fancy camera.'”
Andrew Guthrie Ferguson, a law professor at George Washington University Law School, said the case was notable in that it treated the technology as a “tracking system” rather than just a “fancy camera.”

“At the heart of the court’s ruling is that arbitrary searching of people’s travel histories violates a reasonable expectation of privacy and requires some judicial oversight,” he said.

I agree I wouldn’t waste my time if it was AI generated, but what if that is just the norm. If a school didn’t care for their tenure standards (as long as it met the existing rules). Should it count?

And if Hannah or Will submitted that new article as part of their promotion packet what is an outside reviewer supposed to do with it? Most current standards don’t really help. I am staring at one now and would have no idea how it would apply to an AI work that is passably good.
