I like a lot of covers, but it’s hard to beat the band Khemmis’ doom metal cover of an Appalachian folk song (O, Death) about the inevitability and fickleness of death. youtu.be/mF04RdfgGYs?...

6. Favorite town/city theme is tough, because I’ve realized I don’t play a ton of games with town-specific themes. That said, “Welcome to Bright Falls” is probably my favorite. In this case, it’s less the music than the memory of that first Alan Wake play through. youtu.be/nI24_67SDn4?...

Like, do I want to talk about stuff with them? Sure. Do I appreciate that I don’t have to? You betcha. If the joke about me being a vampire was true, this person is one if a very few I’d offer to turn so we could hang out forever.

Realized for about the sixth time that one of the reasons I like spending time with a particular friend is because they’re good with silence and sporadic conversation. It’s rare, refreshing, and more deeply comforting than I can express. I’m lucky this person exists and wants to spend time with me.

5. Favorite character theme is, for sure, “Devil Trigger” from Devil May Cry 5. It’s a battle theme for Nero, but so much of that series IS battle, I feel like it counts. I love everything about this song. The energy, lyrics, crunchy riffs; it’s perfect. youtu.be/eICijnr1k_I?...

The movie “House” from 1985. The movie was bad enough, but my mom thought it was funny to imitate one of the character voices to terrify four-year-old me.

Reminds me of a character in the Malazan series who lost an eye, and ended up being deeply insightful but also somewhat oblivious to that insightfulness.

4. Surprising absolutely no one who knows me, my favorite main theme/motif also comes from The Witcher III. “The Slopes of the Blessure” does such a fantastic job of highlighting that Toussaint is a world unto itself, fully removed from Velen and the North. youtu.be/824CHpd7Ax8?...

3. Favorite regular battle theme has got to be “Steel for Humans” from The Witcher III (the one that sounds like they’re singing “banana tiger” over and over). It’s a genuinely good song, with a lot of energy that keeps fights with humans engaging. youtu.be/BLqktDBIew8?...

Thanks for making a fun thing to join! Yeah, I feel like it captures a sense of almost melancholic hope that runs parallel with the horror of despair in that game.

2. I feel like it’s harder to nail down the “first level” of most games I play these days, but Outset Isle sticks out in my mind. It’s due at least in part to the island’s theme: it’s optimistic and homey, while still sparking a desire to head out and go on an adventure. youtu.be/YUIk2PUU2Vg?...

- I saw the new Ghost movie with the same friend - am playing/running more D&D - realized I have a level of confidence in my work and GMing skills I never used to - actually like who I am as a person for the first time in 44 years

Highlights: - my awful father died - I got into Ghost and saw “Rite Here Rite Now” with someone who would become a dear friend - I realized at some point I wanted to maybe date again - I saw Ghost live twice (with above mentioned friend) - I discovered and saw a band called Castle Rat live

Pretty sure it was this. There weren’t a lot of places that sold anime where I grew up, and buying the full series (assuming you could find it) would’ve been prohibitively expensive.

Also: not everyone is the same! We all have different needs and coping mechanisms.

I find it annoying how frequently I have to explain to neurotypical friends that: 1. Not everyone is “a little on the spectrum,” 2. Shutdown or meltdown is not “throwing a tantrum,” 3. Alexithymia and/or delayed processing isn’t due to immaturity, 4. “Literal thinking” is not what you assume it is

I watched a lot of old tv reruns as a kid, usually while playing hooky from school or be I couldn’t sleep. The Dick Van Dyke Show was a favorite, and it’s ultimately what made me interested in writing.

An interviewer who may not even work with you directly should leave this kind of irrelevant baggage at the door, or decline to be an interviewer in general if they know they hold these kinds on opinions.

020

Keith Kelly @professorarchetype.bsky.social · 26/09/2026

This is a horseshit take, and this discourse is idiotic. As an interviewer, you have no idea why that person has a beverage. Unless it directly relates to their job qualifications, disqualifying them makes you an asshole. To be frank, if you’re interviewing and this happens, you dodged a bullet.

Macho Man Randy Savage is probably my absolute favorite, but this guy has made me want to start watching again.

Keith Kelly @professorarchetype.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Yeah, the novels have a different feel to ‘em. I kinda chalk it up to the novels being a story largely about Ciri, but including the character growth and perspective of Geralt & Yen.

I’ve slowly been working my way through the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. Definitely recommend if you like dark fantasy. Also: The Witcher is an excellent series. If you don’t want to jump into novels, there’s a couple short story collections.

Yeah, I can be an amazing friend. I could be an excellent romance partner. But I do often worry that people will get tired of my perpetual case of the morbs, and isolate because I feel like my presence is neither desired nor missed.

000

Keith Kelly @professorarchetype.bsky.social · 23/09/2026

Yeah, I’m good at the work I do. Quite possibly very good. I’m also good at some of my hobbies and enjoy them all. Also I’d like to lay down in the forest and fade into nothingness because I’m very tired, and it feels like doing anything takes more and more energy I don’t get back.

Had my first session with my new therapist. It’s weird telling someone that I feel like my depression has gotten worse, but my sense of self worth is the highest it’s ever been. Like, yeah, I’m a worthwhile human who’s s good at things and emotionally available. Also my life feels meaningless.
