Same, nearly carbon copied. Down from nearly 20 tenure/line faculty ten years ago to around 12 now. Our national ranking are *up* to around 13th, tied with ivies, and we have more programs: launched another BS program, another MS, like 5 new certificates, and a new PhD route. We worn out bro.

This is also my experience. All roads lead to budget cuts anyway. Fewer students? Sorry, you should have grown, budget cuts for you. Same students? Other departments grew, budget cuts for you. Oh, you have more students? Sorry the formula changed. Budget cuts for you.

This. Also I think polls under Trump are weird, and they are pulling some next level voter suppression shit to hope it covers to probably wider than usual polling error if the polling error has broken as hard R (pun intended) as it has during the Trump years.

💯 It just doesn’t count when it’s whiteness, and it doesn’t have to be based in anything empirical either. They just have to feel aggrieved and they can rant and rave horrible shit about Mexicans and the media will then to Kamala Harris and call her campaign light in the ass on policy

Why don’t we talk about this more? Is it an attachment to American exceptionalism? If the democratic candidates in Texas under perform, are we going to have an entire army of pundits drone on and on without discuss the enormous and flagrant vote rigging? Wtf is wrong with us bro?

Jason Coupet @professajay.bsky.social · 11/09/2026
I dunno what the pundits can do about it I guess but it’s annoying to keep exogenous these election results. They do fuck shit down here man. Texas just purged more than a million people…1.2 MILLION…off the voter rolls bro. www.tpr.org/government-p...

And years of that shit, along with absolutely deep deep crippling black poverty and inequality, means that people check tf out of electoral politics. I wonder if you really do have to spend time in places like Texas or North Carolina to see it man. They do *all kinds* of shit.

I’ve lived in the south for more than ten years now. And I’ve lived in the “purple” south, the south that I swear to god would be blue, maybe even solidly firmly blue if it weren’t for a whole network of very practiced shenanigans. They are good at it man.

One consequence I think of having so many center and center left pundits based in “blue” states is that we do not talk nearly enough about vote rigging and election manipulation in this country. Hearing the term “if democrats take back the (insert here)” is like nails on a chalkboard to me now.

The "centrist" think tank Third Way is looking to pay someone between $140,000 and $150,000 to spend their days trying to dig up dirt on DSA members. They're trying to sell this gig as "anti-extremism" work, which I find completely disgusting.
from job listing:

As the Director of Anti-Extremism, a typical day might include…

Assembling and updating a database of the DSA’s most extreme ideas and statements and a repository of voting records, affiliations, and issue positions to make available to allies and partners;
Leading public opinion research to identify and test the contrasts that move base voters away from these extreme candidates;
Overseeing the development of memos, talking points, rapid response materials, and other products that make the case against these extreme forces in American politics;
Promoting and marketing our research and materials to ensure they reach decisionmakers quickly, repeatedly, and at scale through a coordinated distribution infrastructure;
Recruiting and arming a group of young, diverse spokespeople to fight the DSA from a center-left perspective and assembling a broad coalition of organizational partners to make the case against extremism;
Running an earned media program to create a drumbeat of our message in op-eds, television appearances, podcasts, and traditional and digital media engagement.

I’ve been saying this for nearly 15 years now but the “center” wing of the Democratic Party would be a very solidly right wing party just about anywhere else in the world. And our “far left” platforms basically call for what are mainstream policies in nearly every other developed country.

Agree with @jamellebouie.net that it's pretty clear Elon Musk wanted to eviscerate USAID *for the purpose of killing as many African people as possible.* Mass death wasn't an accidental byproduct of his "deep state" paranoia; it was a key mission of DOGE. www.nytimes.com/2026/07/29/o...
One might even see his destruction of the United States Agency for International Development — responsible, so far, for an estimated 700,000 deaths worldwide — as consistent with his concern with falling white birthrates relative to those in places such as sub-Saharan Africa, where U.S.A.I.D. was active. After all, one way to secure a future for Western children, in this zero-sum view of the world, would be to starve African ones.

cops hate automated enforcement *because* its fair. They conceptualize their role not as punishing rulebreakers but punishing "bad people" (poors and minorities). They dislike red light/speed cameras because they wind up punishing "good people" for doing something they see as essentially harmless
