Learned today that an article for which I was interviewed about how health and ethics have changed in the administration was rejected by the publisher because it didn't show the good to come from project 2025.

So apparently faculty can no longer be trusted to make curricular decisions or to manage themselves, even though we've done so successfully (thought not easily) for 1,500 years. New bill would take faculty governance power away from the faculty.

Texas faculty testify against bills to screen universities’ curriculum for “ideological” bias
Lawmakers say several bills under consideration Thursday would “address the unchecked authority of faculty.” They would expand university governing boards’ oversight powers.

We aren't invited to such things because we aren't at the prestigious schools and unless you pay for it travel, we have no resources to attend. Plus we have heavy teaching, advising, and service loads with high research productivity expectations too.

The cuts to Medicare, DHHS programs, and safety net are terrible. Given the wide spread suffering this will create, we may actually have a chance for a real national health system and single payer funding coming out of the ashes after the next elections.

2/2 The answer is because we have public health. But a month into 47 and that joke is now reality. We need home testing for everything that used to be done by public health, when we had public health.

1/2 When I teach public health ethics, I joke to students about why they don't test their air for particulatez in the morning before they breathe, or test their water for lead before brushing their teeth, or test their food for listeria before eating. .

2/2 But overnight, we are no longer a nation that progresses science meaning that these bright international students no longer will want to come here. So yes, this move will close many schools.

1/2 Another peril to higher Ed is the upcoming demographic cliff-there are simply fewer college aged people than there used to be. To make up for the gap, universities depend on international students who would come here for world class education, usually in sciences.
