Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 09/11/2024It's great to come across a book where someone is exploring the idea of processual complexity - the very same idea I've been laying with for the past four years. 430
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 09/11/2024The current wave of populism in the UK is in part about inequalities, but I think it is as much if not more due to the nostalgia of an aging population for a mythical time when everything was better. Populists sell them a picture of a time that never existed but which they identify with. 120
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 03/11/2024An amazing book. Just finished a very close read and lots to really reflect on and embed in my work 020
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 29/10/2024Huw Humphreys from University East London has helped me sharpen my thinking on organisations. Now thinking in terms of a Dissociative-Integrative Organisation spectrum model. The more dissociative end looks something like this 210
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 27/10/2024A first sketch out of a schematic of The Dissociative Organisation 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 22/10/2024Some thoughts and reflections on leadership in education. 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 20/10/2024One of our papers (me and @draimeequicks.bsky.social) is finally in print bera-journals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/... 042
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 18/10/2024Issues of recruitment and retention in the English education system are systemic and complex. Using some form of 'Officer Krupke' approach really won't work. 010
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 16/10/2024Completely. Posted this yesterday which we discussed a lot this evening. Shows the incidence of phrases in the Google books Corpus over time. Spot the New Labour years!! 100
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 15/10/2024This week's reflective questions poat-sessuon focusing on the meaning of leadership. 100
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 15/10/2024I think this tells us something about how leadership is perceived in education and why it needs to change. Is this the negative impact of quasi-marketisation and academisation and it's valourisation of leadership? 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 13/10/2024I think they have some ideas, I just think they, the system & the media don't really know how to achieve it. Imo it's because they're all incapable of thinking in complex ways. It's a worldview problem. We should be in the complex zone - Whitehall and the media don't work there! They like simple! 110
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 10/10/2024Home late after evening teaching, but a great backdrop on this evening's walk. 030
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 10/10/2024Love this, the assumed substance metaphysics of Romance languages. 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 08/10/2024Reflective questions for our masters group to ponder after the session tomorrow evening. 010
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 04/10/2024Rural Lincolnshire might be missing certain things, shops, street lighting etc, but the skyscapes are always amazing 010
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 28/09/2024Lincolnshire wolds can be really bleak in Winter, but are sometimes very beautiful. 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 28/09/2024A nice set of reflections on the process of being a scientist. 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 28/09/2024and using a number of theories to explore that data and then synthesising the insights we gain to build a more complex appreciation of the topic. For me it comes back to my love of Marcel Jean's painting - if we want to begin to understand our world we need multiple perspectives 141
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 22/09/2024There's also the fact that hours worked never takes into account the complexity of time. Teachers have seen huge intensification, greater polyrhythmic activity and less autonomy. All important in understanding experience of time. 110
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 22/09/2024But contracts already take into account holidays. The largest problem that I see is the need to more closely define 'reasonable non-directed time'. 120
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 21/09/2024Willingham Woods down in Lincolnshire. Lovely place to come and get lost for an hour or two 210
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 21/09/2024Remember walking along here four years ago just after this area had its tree cover felled. Great to see young growth emerging from the sea of bracken 130
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 21/09/2024I always feel there's a beauty, a real artistry in a good social theory. Capturing part of the complexity of social existence, even more so now that they increasingly enfold conceptualisations of environment within them. Each offers a small window on the processually complex reality of the world 010
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 17/09/2024Beautiful afterglow this evening, and in the opposite direction a huge sky!! 010
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 16/09/2024Feel free to use them if you would like. Don't know if this is any use as well, taken last winter 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 15/09/2024Looks really interesting. Read this over the summer. Never knew how heavily involved in north eastern Europe they were. Fascinating read. 100
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 15/09/2024Finally finished The Silver Bone. Really good but miss the dry, sometimes slightly surreal wit of books such as Death and the Penguin and A Matter of Death and Life (my favourite Kurkov novel). 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 13/09/2024I think this is interesting from the conclusion of the paper discussed in Thinking Allowed and that I linked to. 121
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 11/09/2024Love the slightly crisp air that's closing in when out in the late evening 000
Phil Wood @processed.bsky.social · 03/09/2024This is a fantastic consideration of (organisational) failure and why it can often be so hard to identify for those in the context where failure is emerging. 030
