Through its sacrifice Hallownest lasts eternal. This official Hollow Knight plush was designed and prototyped by Eyes5. It's about 15.7 inches tall.

This is the same strategy they use in all of their political speech - they'll say the most bigoted shit you ever heard, and then immediately say that's not bigoted. Then Roberts and Kavanaugh nod, "Well they said it's not bigoted, so I guess it can't be bigoted."

Jamelle making a nerdy reference expecting people will just get it? It's more likely than you think.

I was too scared of contact damage to use it, and ended up forgetting most of the time.

I started following for the Metroid bits, and this is also very cute. Happy you got to be recognized in this way for something you like.

Talarico can have a pro-trans message and still win in Texas. He doesn't need to "run up the margins in more conservative areas", he needs to bring out the base while letting conservative voters (rightly) upset about the economy stay home. Even Third Way acknowledges anti-trans messaging loses.

Since experience is relevant here, I'll share that I am a software engineer. I've had the benefit of only brief unemployment immediately after college. Since then, all of the job-seeking I've done for a handful of jumps has been while employed. I've also interviewed candidates for hiring.

Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
Unless the position is to be some sort of salesperson, I don't see why it would be that. It seems like there is an expectation that the interview is, at least in part, how well the candidate adheres to a performance or ritual with no bearing on the actual work or even the actual work culture.

You're presenting your work persona. For a lot of people, sometimes, that involves drinking coffee. For some people, sometimes, that coffee is iced. If it's so normal to have at work that it's mundane, I don't understand what makes it antisocial in an interview.

Whenever I see someone promote "mandatory service", I have a brief thought of "Oh yeah it'd be great to have an expanded civil service" before remembering they probably mean military.

Something I've been wondering lately: it's not normal for DoJ to be representing the President in litigation, right? Isn't there supposed to be White House attorneys for this kind of thing?

I think this is what everyone is responding to - the subheader reads "Social media’s best-known gadfly insists: ‘I haven’t changed what I believe. I’ve just gotten disillusioned about the political landscape. There’s not a clear political group I map onto now.’" www.thefp.com/p/two-drinks...

Incredible that the only evidence for this would be found in the Grand Canyon - no other archaeological site anywhere else in the Americas to support this.

(Democrat establishment shouldn't be mistaken as leaders of any kind of political movement.) (Republicans broadly, not just the president, are to blame for the atrocities of this administration. Republicans can oppose or even act to stop Trump, and they don't.)

The base is mad at Democrat establishment because Democrat establishment doesn't share their anger at Republicans.

Trans people are not a threat to safety and fairness in sports. All this framing does is capitulate to bigotry. The only reason we're talking about sports is because of bigotry, not because people have genuine concern for girls and women.

Can anyone help clarify: It's not normal for DOJ to get involved in this kind of thing, right? As in, White House is supposed to have its own team of lawyers to intervene on the White House's behalf, while DOJ is supposed to be going after crimes or something? Or do I have that wrong?

The manga behind Land of the Lustrous gets... weird. I liked the visuals in the anime, but being an incomplete story and seeing where the story goes, I hesitate to recommend it to people not already into anime.

(Maybe worth pointing out that anarchy also has to be protected forever, both from outside conquest and internal unrest. I think the only way to get out of having to eternally fight for the society you want to have is to surrender having a say in the matter.)

Thanks for the summary. Maybe it's my lack of imagination, but I don't see how things would be better if we gave up on having government systems that improve peoples lives. Yes, there is no way to make them immune to future sabotage. They need to be constantly guarded, forever.

Like everything else he does, it is absolutely going to be beset by self-inflicted problems. By the time he's leaving office, he will be petulantly blaming saboteurs for the grotesque mess it will become.

"In the minority" after affirming that the decision would favor Trump even without him, possibly. It also allowed him to be the one to write the dissent, even if his position is different from the other dissenters.

I would expect that even in a distributed system, there can still be national, ideologically-motivated mandates halting certain types of care. I don't think you're expecting the FDA to get split into per-state systems, for example.

Trump calling them doesn't mean it's not an automatic process the companies don't control. Why would we rely on Trump correctly understanding how this works? I also think Burgum is just lying about Trump personally calling Apple.

It was telling they never clarified what people were expected to conform with under "woke one". Might have undermined their point.

Even the recommendations at the end, Jamelle mentions a book describing the incredible disfunction of the White House, and these two white political commentators shudder and leap to "heart-warming" fiction. It's just abdication of conveying our genuinely stark reality to their audience.

Cottle driving me crazy the whole time - this insistence on the horror of wokeness. When Jamelle correctly calls her out that there was no real compulsion, she doubles down. No one was fired for not having the correct books!
Bouie: I mean, listen, you may have felt that way. You’ve got to understand, part of my skepticism here is that people use this language, “Well, everyone had to do this thing.” No, you didn’t. No one forced you to do anything. I didn’t put a black square on my Instagram. I didn’t go out and buy a bunch of books. I think I wrote a column in 2020 that was like, “’White Fragility’ is a bad book,” right? Part of my frustration is that there’s this language of compulsion, and it’s like, I don’t know, you know?

Cottle: Well no, but like, the compulsion was there. If you didn’t want to take a beat-down, if you didn’t want to get fired in certain places. It’s not like somebody was going to come shoot me if I didn’t do certain things, or certain politicians didn’t ——

French: In parts of the right, you worry about that.

It's like a government trying to dictate what definition a word should have. (Which, now that I write it, reminds me conservatives love to do exactly that: "marriage" and "gender" come immediately to mind.)
010
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
This is the part that gets me - the President does not have the authority to do this. I would argue even Congress doesn't have the authority to do this. The name of the place is what people call it, not something dictated by law.

Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I think the word you're looking for is "nonpartisan"

Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I already acknowledged your point - you like that she was nice about her politics. It's telling that you refuse to acknowledge the point of the conversation you entered into: that it's incorrect and a problem to frame Parton as "neutral on culture wars" just because she was nice.
000
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I did read it! CNN's use of the word "neutral on culture wars" was factually incorrect! Do you agree? Do you understand how conflating "nice" with "neutral" is a problem? CNN wants to portray Parton as a centrist, and she wasn't. It is revisionism.
100
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Her approach and her activism are the same thing. Everyone here understands that you like that she was nice. That's not what the contention is. Do you agree that it's incorrect so say she was "neutral on culture wars"? Do you understand the problem with conflating "nice" with "neutral"?
100
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
So you agree that it's incorrect to say she was "neutral in the culture wars", even if she was nice about it?
100
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
At best, you are using "neutral on culture war" as a euphemism for "nice", and "engages in culture war" as a euphemism for "shouty". That is a disservice to her activism. She didn't stand by and do nothing. She actively engaged in improving things.
120
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I have been reading. You and the article falsely frame that a genuinely good person can only be "neutral on culture wars". She was active in it. She opposed bigotry, elevated disadvantaged people, and benefited society as a whole. It's wrong to call that "neutral on culture wars".
130
Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
Having a position in the culture war does not mean "yelling at people in TV-style tactics". The culture war is whether or not America should be operate through social hierarchy. She had a position in that.

Yeah there's numerous examples from different writers over the decades. It's true that sci-fi writers generally don't try to specifically predict the future, but also OP's callout of social media not being predicted is very wrong.

This ad is associating their brands with disgust about data centers. Data centers are so clearly and overwhelmingly unpopular that it's being harnessed in commercial marketing.

Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
It's weird to have to explain this: Cooling data centers with pee is not a genuine proposal they're making. Even if people do mail jars of pee to AI data centers, the obvious outcome is making the recipients of those jars unhappy at having to deal with human waste, not a new cooling solution.

So what you're saying is you see these lines along places in Chicago, but you *know* the people in that line can't actually be Chicagoans?

Primal Zed @primalzed.bsky.social · 17/08/2026
Then go elsewhere. I'm confused on what the problem here is. If people are waiting in a line for a locally-owned bakery, I'm glad that bakery is doing well and people are enjoying themselves. Not everything needs to be catered to my immediate personal convenience.

Being mad is a very appropriate reaction to this! It's incredibly rude, gross, and violating to have this done. Your work is so thoughtful and inspiring, it's disgusting that someone would use the slop machine to steal your creativity and charm.
