Earth's sky is blue because of scattering of short (blue) wavelengths of light. BUT...a contributing factor may be that oxygen itself is blue. It's not normally seen because O2 molecules in the gas phase are widely spaced. However, in the much-denser liquid O2, the color is quite apparent.

Four years ago today a tornado struck nearby Mayfield, KY. Much of the town was all but leveled. Today much of the damage has been repaired, but in this area of Kentucky, tornadoes will continue to be a serious hazard.
