Yeah. I can see how constructing a specific force is not the most interesting solution. But that's the approach paved by Córdoba and Martínez‑Zoroa, isn't it? It's a bit late to complain. Bullmister suggested their work was worthy of the Fields Medal.

I mean that the AI companies will not be allowed to substitute for doctors & lawyers, even if they are better at some/all tasks than doctors and lawyers, as jobs are also socially determined and have political & social ties that go beyond the job function. See Abbott's "Theory of the Professions"

I think at the time there was also some inflation hitting (Putin's war?), which would also have harmed their cash flow. They might have blamed that on AI, too. I don't think there was much awareness of GPT-3 or Dall-E beyond technophiles.

I think the crucial point was the release of Stable Diffusion 1.5. It could be run by anyone with a gaming PC. No mucking about with an API or payment. It could be finetuned to preferred styles. Last but not least: private NSFW generation. At that point, social media artists realized that their

Experiments with these so-called split-brain patients revealed that both hemispheres were conscious, but only 1 could verbalize this, while the other had to resort to gestures. The 1981 Nobel Prize was awarded for that work.

I think we already know this to be true (and even more complicated). The brain consists of 2 hemispheres usually connected by the corpus callosum. In a few people, this connection was surgically cut to manage severe epilepsy. The ability to speak is usually found in only 1 hemisphere.

In case someone doesn't get what I did there, here is Google with valuable tips. When you lift those weights, stay safe. Maintain good form.
AI Overview

That quote is a playful spin on Matthew 4:19. The real Bible verse says "fish for people," not "fish for weights."

Weightlifting and Fishing Tips

Lift weights safely with good form. Start with light weights. Fish early in the morning for the best catch. Check local rules before you fish. Would you like help finding a local gym or a good fishing spot near you?

The fact that you seek the blame with OAI just confirms the old truth that "something always sticks".
101
Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
The accusations were completely baseless and even nonsensical. The news media and many content creators view AI as a mortal enemy. They will blow up any disinformation that may discourage use. There's really nothing that OAI can do about that.

You could sensibly say: It generates answers for her. "Her" being the char and "It" meaning LLM/system/computer/service/... But treating an LLM as interchangeable with TN makes no sense. The same LLM can be used for multiple characters. A set of answers may come from different LLMs or even humans.
000
Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
But that's talking about a specific machine and not the character. If you were playing along, you would use the character's pronouns. The interview is necessarily playing along.

Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
When there's a human behind the character, you wouldn't use the human's pronouns.

To me, the most obvious use is sanity checks eg of LLM in/outputs. Do a cheap check before spending tokens. Probably many places where that pays. You can also see the output as button presses, menu selections, clicks, ...

Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
Oh yeah. Of course. D'uh. I wonder how much of their efficiency gains are just batching. You could assign tokens to all answer combos.

Screenshot of a reinforcement learning training monitor for Xiaomi's MiMo models. Two runs are in progress: mimo-v2.6-pro at step 10 (cost $704,895) and mimo-v2.6-flash at step 15 (cost $303,769). A notification bar lists node restarts and result updates, and the main panel shows a benchmark comparison line chart alongside multiple training metric graphs.

You can instruct the LLM to output just one token to answer a multiple-choice question. A single number or letter. Prefill optional.
100
Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
It occurs to me that you could use that method to distill LLMs. Just take the relevant logits and normalize.
010
Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I wonder how it would compare to an LLM given a multiple-choice question and instructed to output a single letter. How much do you save by ditching language generation? Anyone know?

Sounds too good to be true, but also quite plausible. I think we'll see more of this. When the hype started, it led to a lot of funding not just for LLMs but also for alternative approaches. They are the first to reach paydirt, but I expect others to follow.

Yeah, that's what I mean by generous. I think OAI would ridiculously overpay just to make people shut up. What damage are we talking about? Labor costs, HF probably had some outages, anything else? I see no way to turn this into a big deal.

000
Benjamin @premium-content.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
Doesn't really make a lot of sense. You only sue if you can't agree on damages. I see no reason why OAI wouldn't pay generously. What even were the financial damages? Didn't HF only get access after the incident? Free tokens, too? That's paying damages.
