Any Rust, C++ or Python project on GitHub can become a global tool on your machine. No recipe, no manifest in the repo. Just name the backend.

Building a git repo that never heard of Pixi used to mean forking it. Now you declare the build backend inline and Pixi builds it from source.

Conda packages have extras now. Optional dependency groups you declare and then consume, via v3 repodata. Plus when conditions and variant flags.

[system-requirements] is deprecated. Platforms now carry the requirements themselves. CUDA and glibc constraints inline, and you can name a target what you actually call it: jetson-nano.

PEP 723 only covers Python and PyPI, so Pixi reads tool.pixi for the rest. Which means conda dependencies in a standalone script. gdal from a single file, no build step.

A single Python file can now carry its own environment. pixi run --script hello.py Pixi reads PEP 723 inline metadata. No pixi.toml, no .pixi folder, no lock file unless you ask for one.

Using bioconda usually means also configuring conda-forge and a few other channels by hand. Cumbersome, and easy to get wrong. Our new channel-relations CEP moves that info into repodata, so the solver just knows which channels belong together.

Pixi now supports relative `exclude-newer` definitions. This allows users to set a cooldown period before using packages from the internet. This helps avoid pulling in vulnerabilities discovered shortly after release.

The main firmware for the Crazyflie Nano Quadcopter has a pixi.toml now. To quote: "Pixi has a great potential to make our embeded developer lives much easier so I am looking forward at it becoming even better for embedded development! And I would welcome a PR for 'pixi build'"

No more duplicate dependencies in pyproject.toml! Pixi Python packages can now set `ignore-pypi-mapping = false` to automatically convert `pyproject.toml` dependencies into conda package requirements. The goal is no configuration, this is a step in that direction!

We want to make it easier to build packages! For that, we have a unified debug experience in `rattler-build` now. You can run `debug setup`, enter a `debug shell`, and even add some dependencies into the host environment with `debug host-add`.

Pixi can now natively build R packages - for your own packages or thirdparty packages from CRAN or Github. The new `pixi-build-r` build backend makes it possible. pixi-build-r will install compilers, system-level dependencies and R / r-packages from @condaforge.

One of the most requested features is to have a common cache for package builds similar to what conda-build provides. Our goal was to have a solid design for that and after many iterations we are now confident with our approach.

Iterating on recipes can be painful if you always have to iterate from scratch. This is why introduced `rattler-build debug` that lets you directly jump into your fail build without re-building environments or artifacts.

Our parser is now stricter. This means great error messages for undefined variables and ambiguous match specs. Unfortunately that also means that some recipes that used to work, have to be adapted to work with the newest Rattler-Build version.
