Either it’s a voluntary union, with its members having their own rights to self-determination, at any point or points of their choosing, or it isn’t. If it isn’t, it is an involuntary one where the largest member decides on their behalf. London denies Scotland that right, so it is the second.

Marra’s question at #FMQs seems either out of touch with medical practice or deliberately misleading. Why would tightening the supply & use of diazepam be a bad thing? ‘Valium’ is the expensive trade name for diazepam, which is still used. Doesn’t Marra know this or is he playing more Labour games?

The policy shift on diazepam was part of a broader harm-reduction strategy in 2013, but the link to subsequent deaths involves multiple factors. Diazepam is still prescribed in NHS Scotland for certain conditions such as severe anxiety but for very short-term use only. @JohnSwinney @michaeljmarra

FMQs: Michael Marra's claim Valium (diazepam) was "withdrawn" by NHS Scotland in 2013 & that this directly led to increased drug deaths is an oversimplification & misrepresentation of a complex area. While there was a significant tightening of prescribing in 2013, "withdrawn" is not at all accurate.
