She was 90. In an era before titles such as software engineer and computer scientist became mainstream, Hamilton, who died on 30 September, learned to program under the tutelage of a renowned MIT meteorologist. He said this at the time, as did many, and it remains a bald-faced lie. Not a matter of opinion. It's just completely untrue as an objective factual matter. Civil marriage laws don't work like that and never have. Just like the legality of divorce and remarriage doesn't affect the Catholic Church.

screenshot from Seattle Times article entitled "Fireworks caused Chelan fire; 1 of 6 suspects arrested, sheriff says"

[Excerpt]
At Thursday’s news conference, Caille said video footage captured shortly after midnight July 4 showed the suspects allegedly setting off fireworks from the back of a white Dodge truck traveling on Highway 97 near Chelan Falls.
Sparks from the fireworks landed in the grass, causing a fire that spread quickly overnight up the surrounding hillside. The fire exploded in size during the day, as wind gusts up to 50 mph fanned the flames across miles of grass, sage and timber. Some firefighters had to seek emergency shelters and “barely made it out alive,” Caille said.
Deputies traveled to homes in the area issuing evacuation orders. Lister’s remains were discovered the next day inside his scorched vehicle, which deputies found on the side of the road.
Lister died trying to escape fire, carrying with him the ashes of his wife, who had died exactly one month before. Both of his dogs also perished in the fire.

For me, the biggest takeaway from Sophie Cunningham’s hard launch into the right-wing culture wars is how *lucrative* bigotry is now. There’s an entire conservative media ecosystem that will turn anyone willing to make transphobia their personal brand into a well-compensated star.

oh wow how weird! arstechnica.com/science/2026...
Excerpt from Ars-technica article detailing this year's Nobel prize winners, detailing the prize for Economics:

"Citation: Paul Piff, Daniel Stancato, Stéphane Côté, Rodolfo Mendoza-Denton, and Dacher Keltner, for amassing evidence that upper-class people are more likely to snatch from a children’s supply of candy, and engage in other kinds of unethical behavior.

Does one’s social status have any bearing on a given person’s tendency to engage in unethical behavior? To find out, the authors conducted seven related studies to examine this issue from multiple angles. For example, one field study assessed whether upper-class drivers (as adjudged by the type of car driven) were more or less likely to cut off other vehicles at a busy four-way intersection. Another one looked at whether such drivers were more likely to cut off pedestrians at a crosswalk. Yet another study tested whether subjects in a lab-based setting were more or less likely to help themselves to wrapped candies intended for children in another lab—a test of entitlement. And so forth.

Again and again, the upper-class participants proved more likely and willing to engage in various kinds of unethical activity, whether it be cutting off cars or pedestrians, taking candy from babies, or lying about their scores in a series of random dice rolls. They were also more likely to view greed as a positive attribute. That said, the authors also acknowledged the likelihood of exceptions: there are several notable examples of philanthropic and/or ethical wealthy individuals, for example, and past research has shown a correlation between concentrations of poverty and violent crime. Still, their experiments do suggest that “the pursuit of self-interest is a more fundamental motive among society’s elite,” they concluded."
