We have one of these ladders and I went up it to do some pruning. Then when I was finished I decided it would be a great idea on the last press of the buttons that retract each section to put both of my thumbs under the last rung as the whole thing came crashing down.

Counter terrorism police are now leading the investigation into the death of Ann Widdecombe, after "new information and evidence", officers have said.

A 28-year-old white British man from Rotherham, South Yorkshire, was originally arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday but has now been re-arrested on suspicion of commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.

"We are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry to establish the motivation for this attack," head of National Counter Terrorism Policing, Laurence Taylor, said.

On Thursday 78-year-old Widdecombe, a former Conservative minister and later Reform spokeswoman, was found dead at her home in Haytor, Devon, having sustained serious injuries.

Arsenal got another sense of why when they secured one of the key pieces, with the signing of Declan Rice in the summer of 2023. City came in strong, with sources insisting their offer was much higher than Arsenal’s. Rice had already been persuaded by Arteta and the culture around his team, though. He could see he was “going to be loved” there. The midfielder eventually had to insist on Arsenal, to the “fury” of some of the West Ham United hierarchy.
