Maine is one of the few interesting places left. Jackson sounds like something from the 1940s. The GOP candidate is attacking the Dem for having opposed abortion rights. They keep talking about Augusta but they don’t mean the famous golf course. Platner was like 5 people in one body.

This a trenchant point. Everyone can see this is about Trump not patriotism. The implication is any future president can start any kind of conflict. We are a deeply flawed nation and society but even people with whom I disagree about absolutely everything do not want this.

Well this is the correct race to have such a superpower because Collins is the worst.

Important but Democrats cannot retake the majority this cycle. However they need to win this race to attempt to take the majority next cycle.

The “I want to make it clear to everybody” part is something. Buddy - you’re the president. You just say something and that’s it. You don’t have to share your inner dialogue.

One problem for the GOP is it has no leaders other than Trump.

I remember using FaceTime in 2010 to see my newborn daughter when I was out of town. It was so easy. It was truly incredible.

I am mildly curious if there’s any record of Rubio voicing western supremacy before the 2016 primary. I don’t remember anything like that and see the same transformation you mention. But I can’t help but wonder if it was always there.

Don’t be ashamed of what your ancestors might have done. Take pride in and credit for “the West.” Revel in and exert the superiority your ancestors have handed you. Aka white nationalism/western supremacy.

When I’m at the grocery store, I often say “hello fellow westerner” to the people I pass in the aisle. That’s how normal people speak.

I actually think this is significant insofar as the GOP does not want to talk about healthcare, which is not their home turf. The fact that Trump and other GOP candidates are at least paying lip service to HC suggests they’re aware that the sand has shifted beneath their feet.

This is a great point. His other moderate positions are he wants Ukraine to win the war and doesn’t want 1000s of his constituents to lose coverage for absolutely no reason.

It is also totally insane from a sentencing perspective. Victim impact statements are, themselves, problematic. Putting words in the mouth of a dead person is completely bonkers. Also, road rage is bad.

This is why Maine is the most interesting race. Tafoya seems capable of winning non-ideological NFL bros or something. But there’s nothing like this anywhere else. She’s the last Jedi in the GOP. And her time is up.

Trump is famously reliable and has an impeccable reputation for honesty
010
poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
This is correct. As a general rule, there is zero reason to even ask whether someone has been misinterpreted until the speaker publicly denies the interpretation and offers an explanation. The media allows alternatives even when Trump doesn’t deny the original and obvious initial intention.

I was just asking myself wtf is going on? Why would anyone feel impelled to defend Cornell frat guys? Why is this so polarizing? IDK if I agree w/this hypothesis but there is something very bad lurking in the dark.

Trump is powerless, blameless and betrayed. You can’t expect him to do a good job and you can’t fire him. But you were right to vote for him and it was my job to confirm his nominees. The system has no checks but lots of excuses.

What he’s saying now remains profoundly weak. Trump’s blameless, led astray by his lieutenants, whom he just happened to select. Why hasn’t he fired Hegseth if Hegseth is diverging from Trump’s goals? The AG is not the President’s lawyer. Even as he stages his exit, Tillis can’t face the truth.

Jeez this is dark. Why is this so polarizing? I can understand why Kyle Rittenhouse became a hero to the right. I don’t understand this kind of misogyny. Also, Kelly and her ilk also hate Cornell. Why not just go with that angle?

I was struck by how the show aped the old format (start w/anecdotes that make the person seem interesting/knowledgeable) but with no substance. Ross built TT up as a man who knows DC by showing he can take the train from his office to the Capitol. Everyone can do that! There’s only 1 train!

I’m confused. If BA’s add value, a proposition I don’t deny, wouldn’t the programs pass the test?

Just to close the loop, if you click thru, in a following post, Marty notes that what Alito is saying is identical to what he wrote in Dobbs. And the dissenters disagreed. This isn’t new, although I’m not sure Alito has ever said he wouldn’t do the same to Obergefell.
010
poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
It depends on who’s doing it. In Casey, the court found that the public had come to rely on Roe in developing relationships etc and decided not to reverse Roe, even though it now disagreed w/Roe. In Dobbs, Alito reversed that too holding only concrete reliance is relevant to stare decisis.

poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Yes. They were not telling the truth about what their view of Roe.
000
poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
The answer to that question is, in part, how the court weighs reliance interests. This isn’t hard.

poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
I don’t agree with Alito. I’m just trying to answer the original question.
110
poor-yorick.bsky.social @poor-yorick.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
He’s talking about stare decisis not Constitutionality. It’s clear he doesn’t agree with Obergefell. He dissented. But he’s saying it can’t be revisited because of reliance since the decision.

They thought it was prob an NBA game bc it was a big group/no big mens college game. No NBA in DC that day. They found no record of Smith traveling and deduced he was prob in Atlanta bc timing of texts and they assumed he would hide such a trip bc he was prob colluding. Bayesian trap. Wrong priors.

Was gonna say this. As an attorney, it is the only film that makes feel like someone gets me. When Clayton tells the guy with the Porsche he’s a janitor not a fixer, I was like hell yeah. I mean, we aren’t really janitors. We’re undertakers. But that’s why you stop and look at the fucking horses.

Don’t forget Bill Barr. He was at the CIA during Watergate. I think it’s fairly well established that he disagreed with the WG reforms. Emerged post Iran-Contra to hand out pardons. Reemerged to squelch Mueller.

I don't find the Schmitt Senate fiasco remotely funny. It's just McCarthyism but more incompetent. It's appalling, & a constitutional order that can't end this level of unserious lying & extremist nonsense isn't worth saving. We need massive institutional reform to make sure it never happens again.

Obviously the actual scandal aspect, ie, that he was in Atlanta to conspire w/state prosecutors was completely imagined. But I can’t tell if they thought they could fake their way thru placing him in Atlanta or if they had convinced themselves that would be easy.

You think? He accused him of perjury after that. But it’s weird that they flashed the poster, which suggests they were trying to create an impression of scandal but didn’t want to show enough to have it unravel. W/e they were trying would have benefited from rehearsal.
