Reposted by LBarkwarrior cop @wyattprivilege.bsky.social · 10/10/2026Ok so I was accidentally completely wrong about everything in exactly the way you guys said the whole time. Here’s why I was still right 964873
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Nine books I like. I tried to select things that I think have most influenced my sense of what literature can be or affected how I see the world or just that I think about most often 010
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Now that I think of it Over the Garden Wall works too. Every episode a brief visit to a different locus of American mythology (the Mill, the Tavern, the Farm, the Schoolroom, the Riverboat, etc.) 130
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The Chapo guys also did this whenever anyone mentioned reLIEgion, they suddenly got very weepy and angry 010
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Finally found this original Aickman collection recently which I've been looking for for a while (cover by Edward Gorey of course). Your annual reminder to read Aickman who is without equal in "horror"/"weird" lit & is one of the best short story writers of the 20thC in any genre 010
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I guess you didn’t read the part where Don Quixote teaches creative writing depressedly and has a freaking affair! 060
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Like I think it's much more likely that an average litfic enthusiast will have read The Left Hand of Darkness or Lord of the Rings than that "a sci-fi person" will have read Great Expectations or Don Quixote. (Ofc you can be a fan of sci-fi or fantasy etc without that being your whole deal) 1120
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I feel like this has got to be backwards. In my experience people who explicitly ID as sci-fi fans eg don't tend to read much else while even the most snobbish litfic reader will have read many of the most famous "genre" books. (Also, I don't think this guy is paraphrasing VanderMeer accurately) 3160

LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I once saw a post advertising that the Paris Conservatoire was seeking a professor of "leg rape" and was somewhat taken aback until I realized it was a bad machine translation from French of "viol de gambe" 230
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Trying to imagine how you'd extend the T sound in pretty 150
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026I also keep seeing Breaking Bad clips with hideous AI upscaling lol 010
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 02/10/2026SomethingI've noticed when I come across reels from TV/movie scenes is that if a shot holds on any one character for more than a second the reel will cut to a mirrored version of the shot. Presumably because any image lasting longer than 1 second is too boring for Video Americans 250
Reposted by LBarkKen Jennings @kenjennings.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Now THIS is some Bluesky. Hook it up to my veins. 3155525
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 26/09/2026And I hope this isn't #problematic to say but many people seem to be convinced that posting "Erm...le freaking...MEN??!?!" is enough of a blow for social justice that attacking some random people in a video is justified the way it wouldn't be in other situations 150
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Short-form video and "How is this random event about ME" syndrome have unfortunately proved to be a lethal combination for many psyches 191
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Now you might point out that the "dirtbag leftist" thing in general was incredibly mortifying and not just in this specific instance. Can't argue with that 060
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026It was a time when you could call stuff "neoliberal" and act like you just made a really incisive point. Current Affairs for some reason published a really embarrassing article along these lines by Lowenaffchen (lol). The freaking media elites like it so it's bad 240
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026In hindsight the dirtbag leftist takedowns of Hamilton era was one of the most embarrassing trends on Twitter and online in general. Oh the stage musical about the Founding Fathers isn't epic and communist? You are so insanely cool for realizing that 180
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Smdh has no one read The Handmaid's Tale...lack of media literacy strikes once again.... 020
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Guy who sees Mamdani standing next to Trump and is like well damn I didn't think much of this Trump fella but now I'm reconsidering things 050
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Just realized I unforgivably forgot to put any Nathan Fielder show on here even though both I've watched could easily qualify. Let's say The Rehearsal goes in at #5 040
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Not including stuff that started in the 90s like X-Files, except ofc The Return which is different enough from OG Twin Peaks to count as its own thing 010
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Twin Peaks: The Return Arrested Development Mad Men Community 30 Rock The Americans Extras Breaking Bad Party Down The Wire 2170
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026She did it when her daughter was a kindergartener too, when they first decided to send her to a bad school! Photo of her and everything. 050
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Me when my kids want me to buy some freaking Cheetos at the store ! 1110
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher are pretty bad in this. Luckily Alec Guinness and Harrison Ford are around to save the film by being movie stars. Hamill and Fisher got better in Empire and especially Jedi 0171
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Sounds like something a le freaking.....MAN would say!!!! 030
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026(Referring to America Ferrara's big speech in Barbie mostly; regardless of whether you "agree with" it or not, it stops the movie dead to basically just read a Twitter thread out loud, which is the worst thing you can do in a movie) 1100
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026On the one hand outrage over Meryl Streep voicing Aslan is obviously stupid. On the other hand it's not a far-fetched guess that Gerwig would use a movie based on a kids' IP to jam in some very tedious and clumsy sociopolitical #messages, since that describes Barbie exactly 3110
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Gerwig Narnia is gonna take "most tedious discourse of the year" in a walk, I can just feel it. It's gonna make the woke Odyssey discourse look fascinating and edifying. 1261
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026[wokely] But how does this affect America, the protagonist of reality? 150
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It's funny that One Night in Bangkok became a big radio hit. The whole nation loves the synth pop/rap song about playing chess instead of having sex 050
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026Did you know if you play the audio from the Converse ad backwards you can hear John Lennon say "The KKK is good. We here at Converse shoes approve this message." 150
LBark @pontevedrian.bsky.social · 21/09/2026It's sampled from a recording of Firebird iirc. The beginning of King Katschei's Infernal Dance 111
