The first firebug we've seen in our garden! Not the first for the locality, but on a hollyhock seed head, which the previous sighting was also on. #kentnature

A 'cherubic' walk near home in Kent took in these beauties! And some graffiti on the back of the organ penciled by a little cherub who used to pump the organ, perhaps! And Lynsted church walls and gravestones were heaving with firebugs of all sizes.

An engaging Kent Field Club visit to Abbey Physic Garden, Faversham. A young pond dipper made this excellent drawing of Planorbarius corneus. @kentfieldclub.bsky.social ##kentnature

I think that as well as garden lists, we need to start a front door species list. It's amazing how many inverts like our front door! This afternoon, it's a Roesel's bush-cricket.

We enjoyed seeing the feeding trails of limpets on the chalk rocks at the beach just west of Samphire Hoe. Also, the ravens on the cliffs, littles egret flying over the sea and. common lizard on the concrete path. #kentnature

A black oil beetle at Bishopstone Glen near Herne Bay, Kent, today. In fact, there were two, probably one male and one female. #kentnature

My favorite medieval floor tile at Doddington Church. The happy face makes me smile. These tiles were discovered and relaid during an Edwardian restructuring of the chancel. @johnevigar.bsky.social

Wild daffs at Doddington churchyard in Kent looking amazing. It would be interesting to know when they were first planted (at least 40 years ago). They're spreading further and further every year. @wildflowerhour.bsky.social @bsbibotany.bsky.social

A bit dry last night, but there was still movement at our local 'Toad Watch' site. You can tell the way this one has walked.

The first common frog spawn this year in our garden pond. That's 10 days earlier than the previous three years. #spawnsurvey @freshwaterhabitats.bsky.social #kentnature

Sheep at South Swale Nature Reserve have stopped working for Christmas. Or perhaps just sheltering below the sea wall from fresh north-easterlies! @kentwildlife.bsky.social

I've just finished reading the New Naturalist series 'Ponds, Pools and Puddles'. Brilliant. Up to date research. Evidence based information. And joy of joys, plenty of pre and post management monitoring! Add it to your Christmas present list.
