This past Sunday, May 10th, 19-year-old University of Washington student Juniper Blessing was stabbed to death in the laundry room of her apartment building. Juniper was found with over 40 wounds to their head, neck, shoulders, arms, and hands. We need to name Juniper’s murder for what it is: a vicious trans-misogynistic hate crime.Join Dare to Struggle Seattle for a rally demanding justice for Juniper Blessing on Sunday, May 17th at 3:30pm on the corner of Pine and Harvard in Capitol Hill. We will air our grief, speak our bitterness, and unite around the urgent necessity of not just defending ourselves but of taking the fight to the enemy.JUSTICE FOR JUNIPER BLESSINGJUSTICE FOR ALL VICTIMS OF PATRIARCHAL VIOLENCE-----Quick note on pronouns: per the Seattle Gay News, "Several friends of Blessing told the SGN that she identified as a woman, and used both she/her and they/them pronouns." During the time we were hustling up putting together media for the rally today, news reports including comments from people who claimed to know her closely were using they/them, so we opted to as well. Maybe that was the wrong call. But we stand by the content of our analysis in which only refer to her as a woman and name her killing as a trans-misogynistic hate crime and discuss her killing in the context of other forms of patriarchal violence against women. If you're upset by the use of they/them in our posts, we encourage you to come to the rally today, stand with us in demanding justice for Juniper, and struggle it out with us in person afterward. It is critical to show respect for our people, especially in death, but it's also wrong to conflate particular uses of language with actual knives, actual guns, actual bombs, that actually kill people every fucking day. #JuniperBlessing#EndTheMurderofTransWomen#Seattle#Activism#PoliticsView all comments
