Political, economic and policy stuff. An unrepentant guitar gear hoarder. You know who I am. A social democrat on the beats - a libertarian between the human, civil and political rights sheets. The stupidity in this country is exhausting. Moreton Bay

I've always taken the position that racial and ethnic antagonism is always assumed at some unknown weight. My angle is always what's more important that can be deployed to put it back in its box, and crowd it out of the voting decision brainspace.

All coming from a base of reactionary conservatism.

I can't comment on any cultural dimension, but the rationales were the same as a large cohort of other supporters - a longing for social order on their terms, a longing for respect and having a higher position in what they perceive as the social hierarchy, and low tolerance of alternative views

I found an open web portal to control an SDR in Irkutsk, Siberia. The FT8 traffic is some of the busiest I've ever seen, with loads of callsigns in the immediate region. This tells us nothing about the plague situation😂but what a fun and lucky find. Onward to see if I can find unencrypted comms.

I'm of that view too. For the exact reasons you've just outlined, but also because the individualised component of payment is far far less than content creators realise. What is the dollar value of being an input weighted one millionth of the output? A few bucks a year. But collectively useful.

....some sort of fair use provision at its core, with opt out rather than in and mechanisms to enable it, more collective remuneration than individual, and a whole bunch of smashing square pegs into round holes to create some sort of octagon of negotiated acceptability.

The reason some committees are important is that you can see where we'll end up in policy terms by the lean of the way various people and parties pursue issues within it. One of the hardest issues with AI regulation is dealing with copyright, and it looks like it will be....

Violi only wants to talk about nuclear power. and everytime Hastie asks a question it's some version of "on a scale of 1 to an extinction level meteor smashing in to earth, how bad is China?" Not really bringing our national best here.

Three times now, a committee member has asked a question that was answered pretty comprehensively by the witnesses. Then Pocock asks a dumbed down version of the same exact question because apparently he had written it down. There's AI in this room alright - a walking, talking LLM circa 2021

Watching the Joint Select Committee on Artificial Intelligence - and every time David Pocock opens his mouth, the average IQ of the room drops 20 points. He's a bag of potatoes wrapped in a public relations campaign.

Kevin Rudd continuing his weird post-diplomatic bender of interesting speeches and interviews. This one with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan is worth watching www.youtube.com/watch?v=nY-6...

I think Milton is one of those people whom politics comes almost naturally to in his thoughts (which what makes him a good seaker too), whereas Cameron is always having to orchestrate it.

The best was the first train in the morning - because it was also the first train home after a big night! The train around 11am was also really interesting - the biggest demographic spread.

Ha! I was offered a scholarship to UQ in 94! Arts/Law. Did Sci/Psych at the time at Newcastle instead.

Hell yeah! When I was running the Newman research campaign thing, I'd drive to rando train stations and commute to work from them into the city. Make small talk, run experiments, applied real time focus research - stuff like that. Helensvale was a fav!

Very (we always end up at sociology! 🤣) anomie areas, but more Merton and Strain Theory than Durkheim. Low expectations being failed to be met stuff.

With the white folks, it's the last chuck of the psychological dice - blaming everyone else - before having to deal with the reality that the faults in their own lives were entirely of their own making.

One Nation's big lump in their vote has always been people who struggle to deal with their lives not working out like they wished them to., so fuck everyone else. Since 1998. Right in that age slot.

In true Australian fashion, treat everything as an excuse for a piss-up. Soak those lychees in vodka and mint, then freeze them to become ice cubes with a twist. Cocktail of choice - in October say a nice mango daiquiri. Add those pumpkin substitute ice cubes and everything can be Halloween 🤣

Brine the ribs on Friday morning.Start cooking Saturday morning around 9am, for it to be ready for the Top Ten Shootout at 4pm. Then stay up late being dickheads, and wake up with beers and nachos for breakfast for the race start on Sunday!

Bathurst is on this weekend, and every Bathurst for the last 30 years I've cooked a chili for it. It's become an institution. Last month I made a pork ragu using pork ribs. It was so interesting I might do it for a chili. A bright, slightly fruity, pork chili extracting flavour out of those bones
