First of all, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Secondly, I don’t think that applies here. RFK Jr. isn’t right about some things— he *was* right about 1 thing a long time ago; & that’s environmental protection. See: Clean Water Act enforcement, NRDC support, NYC Watershed agreement, etc.

& YouTube’s algorithm over the past 8-10 years accelerated the spread’s scope & intensity. Flat earth’s often a gateway conspiracy to more insidious ones: 9/11, QAnon, COVID— and, yes, anti-vax. While anti-vax poses an immediate threat, we also can’t ignore what kickstarts the pipeline. (2/2)

While I understand what you mean when you say flat earth isn’t hurting anyone, that would have been a more accurate opinion 20+ years ago. It used to just be a zany idea that a few people had, like the moon landing being faked, but the internet changed that (1/2)

What does that mean, “the ideology that you believe in”? Ideologies are connected to agendas. What is the agenda in allowing trans people to exist? There isn’t any. I can, however, think of multiple agendas for denying their existence.

I’m assuming this is a joke? In which case, it’s funny (no sarcasm) but the conversations in the thread below tells me it was meant in seriousness, in which case, there’s an interesting discussion to be had.

First time I’m coming across your account but hey, I’ll stew with you. It’s fucked up but not surprising. Walz is a centrist. He’s also an old school Democrat. Not the best combination when you’re going up against fascism.

They’re not fine with it. They act like they’re fine with it because: 1. They know it’s just a thought experiment and there is no real risk on their part. and/or 2. They see it as simply deferred payment and they’ll collect it at the end.

Something important to remember is that when we talk about protecting sex workers, we don't just mean from sexual predators or serial killers. There are several ways sex workers can experience violence. Here's a few of them:

ABC never, ever should have settled that Trump lawsuit. All they succeeded in doing was showing him that they’ll be willing to pay to make a headache go away. Now that Trump’s team knows that for certain, now they know they can do it going forward. This lawsuit was a proving ground.

Look, I don’t want to be *that* person & I *do* think this is worth doing— However— A Constitution is simply a piece of paper that we choose to imbue with power. It only works because we all agree it does. There’s evidence to suggest that the upcoming Administration does not feel the same way.

Bannon uses the phrase “Nationalist” here. For the uninitiated, he doesn’t mean someone who takes pride in their country a.k.a nationalism. He means someone who takes pride in being white, as in “white nationalist”. Supremacists. Neo-Nazis. The Klan. And he said this at a young Republican event.

Democrats, this is, in part, why you lost the election. I’ve seen less than a handful of takes from high level Dems since Thompson’s death that actually seem connected to the electorate. It’s been 13 days since he was killed. Surely you’ve had enough time to read the room.

They can also clip sentences out of context. Framing’s very important in crafting a narrative. Even if your words are neutral, they can build meanings by associations. Media training exists and it can be a highly valuable investment. If you’re looking to aim high, it’s worth looking into.

and also the turf it’s on— is it friendly or a potential “got ya” type? Be careful with what’s on the record vs. off the record. Know that off-handed remarks can land you in deep. Remember interviewers can use as much/as little of their footage of you as they want.

It can also help put you in front of people who are good people to know and it’ll create networking opportunities. Risks: You have to be mindful of the type of interview (are you just giving a brief insight, essentially just putting your stamp on something or is this a more in-depth analysis?)

I haven’t read it but I’ll have to check it out now! 🙂 I like to read books that aren’t directly related to politics in order to see a different aspect of politics. So, for example: in “Predictably Irrational” Ariely discusses the psychology behind our choices and what influences them.

Kink is advanced sex, and when practiced consensually (and therefore safely), it’s a healthy form of sexual expression. It should never be coercive, violent, or endangering—that’s when it stops being kink and becomes abuse.

Poli Sci Chick @poliscichick.bsky.social · 13/12/2024
This ultimately comes down to communication—being able to have open and vulnerable conversations with a potential intimate partner. Across age groups, this remains a challenge because, despite Americans’ voracious appetite for porn, honest sexual discussions are still largely taboo.

IMO, the actual central issue you raised is consent— something the general public remains largely uninformed about: Who can consent? What constitutes consent? We’re talking about people who don’t understand that consent isn’t the absence of a “no,” but the presence of an enthusiastic “yes.”
