Lucky timing?
Two comments back to back in Bsky feed, both referencing diarrhea and politics

First post: “feels like we’re days away from the FDA making an announcement that having debilitating diarrhea is extremely based and alpha”

Second post: “solid stools are woke”

I *could* search this myself but I am hoping you won’t mind me asking the expert: Is there any data on how this sort of “deep in the hole” phase typically ends? Like if we had one of online dating outcome diagrams but for gamblers who reach this phase, what are the most common outcomes?
Diagram ostensibly depicting one user’s outcomes from online dating for a month, showing colourful horizontal bars that branch and bend into categories like “ghosted” and “wasn’t interested”

I’m torn between this meme and the Scooby Doo one where it says “surprising lack of government interest in preventing obvious problem” on the monster of the week and then Fred pulls off the mask to reveal “a network of soulless fucks greasing palms to maintain profits while people suffer”
The “faux shocked Kirk” meme, depicting an illustrated drawing of Captain Kirk from the 70s cartoon in two panels, one with hand on chin and the next with hand over mouth. He is a White male with brown hair wearing a mustard starfleet uniform

I am so proud to see my fellow scientists united in rejecting the framing of this exercise, and to see so many offering calm, rational, and thoughtful statements about the flawed logic of presenting these issues as matters of popularity. I’m just not that clever personally
Old meme shows a dark haired young man pointing with a pen at a white board with text superimposed on it, reading: “ the best time to delete this post was immediately after posting it. The second best time is now”

Big Pongo energy
Picture of a terracotta quadrupedal creature that appears to be made of plasticine with very large eyes and a vacant expression. The word “pongo!” Is written in rainbow letters overhead.

This slide in particular really nails an essential point that (in my experience) students do not understand about LLMs (to say nothing of overly enthusiastic administrators)
Slide in colourful font with dark background. Title reads “Why Should You Care”. First bullet reads “LLMs are plausible text generators. They organize words and characters into a response that fits the prompt in a purely mathematical sense.
Second bullet reads “keep in mind the most important fact: when LLMs are correct about something, that is incidental, not by-design”
